Visit Old Town Florence and explore the wonderful bistros, restaurants, galleries, and shops along Bay Street. Just a few minutes south along the coast and you’ll find fun in the sun and surf at the fabulous Heceta Beach and of course don’t forget to visit the world famous and most photographed Heceta Head Lighthouse as well as the Sea Lion Caves! Mercer Lake: Boat Launch - There are two public boat launches, First is about 1 mile further east on Mercer Lake rd., watch for signs on your left. Second and slightly easier option is about 1 mile West on Mercer Lake rd to Bayberry rd turn right then an immediate right onto Archer Ln. Launch is at the end of the road, narrow road so best to back down Archer to water. Mercer is a good sized lake listed at 341acres on the north side of Florence. Great largemouth bass fishing, yellow perch, bullhead catfish, seasonally stocked rainbow trout and some sunfish as well.. With a boat, you can poke around the long Dowell and Dahlin arms and many small coves and points around the lake. There are standing and fallen trees around the shoreline, as well as a fair number of docks, that add to the potential cover for bass and panfish. What’s nearby: This home is a quick drive from multiple access points to the Oregon Dunes and ocean beaches including the popular access just out South Jetty Road. The charming Old Town section of the city is filled with lovely shops, cafes, galleries, and restaurants. You will also be minutes from numerous trailheads for hiking or mountain biking. The coastal forests flourishing in Douglas fir and Sitka spruce extend nearly to the Ocean. Some trails wind up, over, and through sand dunes, offering hikers the opportunity to experience the unique natural wonders of this area. Take a scenic drive up Hwy 101 to Heceta Head Lighthouse where free tours are offered daily. Get your adrenalin flowing on a nearby dune buggy tour or with an ATV rental, or go crabbing from the Siuslaw Bay public fishing pier at the end of South Jetty road where crabbing is excellent from late spring until the fresh water from winter rains force the crabs out to the ocean. One bathroom upstairs the shower didn’t spray well the handle in toilet was loose had to juggle it so it wouldn’t run. Sink drained slow and the lock was hard to lock I am only telling you this because if you don’t use it you won’t know. The house is absolutely beautiful and the view was beautiful. Unfortunately the house needs a lot of love inside/out. Inside things such as loose railings, exterior doors that don't lock, jammed pantry doors, lack of silverware, filthy carpets etc. were not ideal. The real issue is the dock area which has dry rot and exposed nails which are safety issues. When we walked in to the house we were greated by soft music playing and lights on each each room. The house met our expectations and was clean. We were a bit concerned based on prior reviews but it was clean. It is a spacious house with lots of room for guests. My son and daughter-in-law paddle boarded 3 different times right off the pier. Just some things to note if you are looking to rent (not issues but just so you know). The kitchen and living room are downstairs. The floor you enter on has 3 bedrooms and the laundry room. There were not any large fry pans that I could find, so if you need one bring your own. There is a keurig and crockpot available. Lots of nice water pressure. The tiled floors were heated (a nice treat on a cold day). There is not the extra table pictured in the breakfast nook. We had a hard time figuring out the heat in each room (besides the heat pump) ##### Yvonne F. This house was perfect! Quiet, perfect sized gaming table, a full kitchen for making snacks, and multiple full-sized bedrooms for everyone to have their private space. We also enjoyed taking breaks from gaming to walk out onto the deck to look at the lake and get some fresh air. It was not perfect, but I was not expecting perfection. The price was reasonable. We had seven people and had PLENTY of room. The trail down to the dock is difficult for some but the dock was good.
