Friars Carse Country House Hotel

"An old period home, exterior is in need of maintenance and cleaning. Gardens around property could be maintained better. Interior of property is lovely and generally upkept well. The room was an average size, just a double bed, it was comfortable. Furnishings nice. Bathroom had a bath but it's in need of renovations and a good bleaching. Nice lounge area to sit for a drink. Billiards room was wonderful to play snooker. Restaurant for dinner was ok. A continental breakfast is avail, very minimal selection. Cereals, tinned and fresh fruit; croissants, cheese and toast. Cooked breakfast is an additional 10 pounds."

"The Bothy is in a beautiful, scenic location a few minutes drive from Moffat. The owner, Karen, lives in a neighbouring property. She always manages to strike a happy balance of being invisible when you want to enjoy aome privacy whilst being available and helpful ir you ever need any assistance. The property is lovingly curated, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The gardens are a haven for wildlife, with a well-positioned bird table atrracting many colourful species such as nuthatches, woodpeckers and greenfinches. Early evening sees wild rabbits feeding on the lawns and we even spotted a golden eagle close to the driveway. Moffat is an attractive town with good shops and restaurants. The Bothy makes a great base for exploring the wonderful Dumfries & Galloway region, amd Karen is a font of knowledge on all the best stuff to do in the area. Would definitely recommend this property."

"We always have a great time at the Hopetoun. The rooms are spacious, cosy and clean, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is always amazing! We look forward to going back - highly recommended!"

"Good location; very economical; comfortable. A lack of tea and coffee in the room (the chamomile tea was welcome after the long drive). The wifi firewall blocked a few pages I would have liked to access (silly games - but online video streaming worked). I didn't take breakfast, but the offer was very welcome. Overall, a very pleasant stay."
