Hiring a car in Jerusalem means you can get out and explore everything the city has to offer, then strike out into some of the spectacular surrounding countryside. Arriving at Ben Gurion International Airport, you can hire a car and drive along Highway 1 to get you to Jerusalem in under an hour. With Israel being quite a small country with a very well-developed network of roads, most of the road trips you take from Jerusalem will be similarly easy.
A short drive from Jerusalem is Ben Shemen Forest, one of Israel’s most popular outdoor destinations, with all sorts of things to do from mountain bike and hiking trails. Head to the Shilat Cliff to try some rock-climbing, abseiling or zip-lining. You could also drive your hire car to the Judean Mountains, popular with hikers and climbers and offering plenty of trails for both walkers and mountain bikers.
Under two hours along Highway 1 is the famous Dead Sea resort of Ein Bokek, one of the lowest points on Earth and a truly unique experience. Float on the salty water then enjoy a spa treatment before driving back through amazing landscapes to Jerusalem. Next head for ancient fortress on the rocky outcrop in Masada National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site looking out across the Dead Sea and the surrounding desert. Take your time driving your hire car back to Jerusalem, and stop to take some photos to share when you get back home.
