About Sydney

Flights to Sydney

Located on the east coast of Australia, Sydney is one of the most visited cities in the world and it is easy to see why. With glorious weather for the majority of the year and tremendous golden beaches, like those at Bondi and Bronte, Sydney is a cheerful place with a fun atmosphere. It is the ideal holiday destination for those who like to go backpacking, surfing and exploring, but also for those who like to relax and soak in the cosmopolitan culture.

Flying to Sydney Airport (SYD)

Book a window seat when you fly to Sydney Airport (SYD) to take in the views of the beautiful beaches and the iconic cityscape. Sydney Airport is less than 5 miles from the city centre and thanks to its extensive train, bus and taxi network, you will soon be able to immerse yourself in the sun and sea.

The airport itself has three terminals: the domestic terminals (T2 and T3) and the international terminal (T1). There are two train stations servicing the domestic and international sides with both providing transfers to the city centre. You will find several airline lounges to choose from, free WiFi in T1 and T2, free shower facilities and of course, lots of shops and eateries.

Booking Your Flights to Sydney

Sydney Airport connects to over forty international and over twenty domestic destinations. This makes Sydney an ideal hub for visiting Australia and other Australian cities, such as Melbourne, Perth, and Canberra. Just make sure you obtain a visa before you fly, unless you are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand.

If you are travelling to Sydney from outside the Australian region you may need to arrange a connecting flight and stopover. Bangkok, Dubai, Tokyo and Beijing are popular places to rest before journeying on to Sydney. Why not use Expedia’s multi-flight booking tool to enjoy a stopover of your choice? How does Mauritius or Bali sound?

When to Fly to Sydney

Summer in Sydney begins in December and ends in February. This period is the busiest which means flights are more expensive than other times during the year. You could save money by flying to Sydney in the late autumn and early winter period of April and June, or by flying out on Christmas day or New Year’s Eve. Either way, as a general rule, it is better to book your flights in advance especially if you plan a long stopover in a different country.

Must-See Attractions in Sydney

With so much to see and do, stay busy in Sydney by visiting its multiple attractions or by relaxing on one of its many beaches. Bondi Beach is the most famous, but for a more secluded beach-side experience with some quality surf try the nearby beach of Tamarama. The Sydney Opera House, one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, is definitely worth a visit and don't forget the unique and magical Blue Mountains situated to the west of the city.
