When to Fly to Hay on Wye
Hay on Wye is a sleepy, relaxed market town for most of the year, but during the famous literary festival in May and June it becomes extremely busy. It’s a great time to visit, and you could see many famous faces walking around the town, though you might struggle to find accommodation if you don’t book well in advance.
Those of an astronomical bent might like to visit for the Haye on Wye Dark Skies Festival, which takes place in April, while those with feet planted more firmly on the ground might prefer the Hay Walking Festival in October.
Transport to Hay on Wye After Your Flight
By car, Cardiff Airport is about an hour and a half away, while Bristol and Birmingham airports are both less than two hours away, and driving is the quickest and easiest way to get to Hay on Wye.
The nearest train station to Hay on Wye is Hereford in England, about 20 miles away. There are regular trains to Hereford from Cardiff and Birmingham. There is a bus service from Hereford which takes around an hour, or you can get a taxi which will be quicker but a lot more expensive.
If you book a car hire in advance through Expedia, you will be able to pick up a car at the airport soon after your flight touches down, saving yourself a great deal of time and effort.
