About Goa

Flights to Goa

Booking a cheap flight to Goa is quick and straightforward with Expedia. India’s smallest state is home to a well-developed coastal strip, full of wide sandy beaches and relaxed resort towns.

Look forward to an appealing mix of Indian and Portuguese cultures, faded colonial architecture and pea-green paddy fields dotted with crumbling whitewashed churches.

A flight to Goa promises a warm, sunny stay in hotels ranging from low-cost guesthouses to luxury five-star resorts.

Flying to Goa from UK Airports

Flights to Goa will take you into International Airport, also known as Dabolim Airport, a short distance from the centre of the port city of Vasco de Gama and the only airport in the state.

Some airlines operate non-stop flights from London Gatwick UK to Goa, and multiple airlines operate non-direct flights via Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Doha, Muscat and other cities. These flights mostly depart from London Heathrow, but you can also choose a one-stop option from Manchester and Birmingham airports, so you don’t need to travel via London. The flight time to Goa when travelling direct is approximately nine and a half hours, and UK citizens will need to obtain a visa.

Where to Stay in Goa

In tourism terms, the tiny state of Goa is roughly divided into two markedly different parts – North Goa and South Goa. The north – though still retaining hints of its hippy-trail past – is widely known as the party zone, where hedonistic holidaymakers come to enjoy full-moon parties, booming nightclubs and long stretches of golden sand backed by fairy-light-bedecked beach bars. That’s not to say you can’t find serenity here, but it’s more likely to be found in a yoga lesson or your hotel spa than by lazing on the beaches of this highly developed coastal strip.

In contrast, South Goa – which does have a few dense pockets of development – is far more tranquil overall. There are fewer amenities, watersports and other activities, but the beaches here are particularly scenic, with plenty of thatched seafood shacks and sleepy fishing villages to explore. You’ll also find some of Goa’s best luxury hotels in the south, particularly around the beaches of Cavelossim, Benaulim, Utorda, Majorda and Arossim.

Spend some time discovering the atmospheric former Portuguese capital of Old Goa, with its crumbling ruins and ancient churches. Or head to the state’s second city, Margao, with its Municipal Gardens, covered market, small Hindu temple and faded old Portuguese houses.

Far inland, experience Goa’s greener side with a trip to see exotic birds and butterflies at Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. Or visit the more remote Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary southeast of Palolem, for the chance to spot wild boar and monkeys in their natural habitat.

It couldn’t be simpler to book your flight to Goa from the UK, so search Expedia to compare prices, times and departures airports.
