Nice central hotel

Posted 12-Aug-2016
The hotel was lovely. The room was a bit on the small side but sufficient for 1 night. Big bathroom with good amenities. The room could do with a fresh lick of paint; there must have been a flood in the room above because there were dark patches on the ceiling. Overall I would stay here again.

2 Night Shopping Trip in Cardiff

Posted 02-Jul-2016
Pros: Large airy rooms with everything you could need.
Cons: Floor could have been a bit more dust free, especially in the corners. Very minor problem however and hardly noticeable.
Location: Basically on top of Principality Stadium. Huge shopping mall, lots of restaurants and historic sites including Bute Park. Bus ride from Cardiff Bay.
Cardiff Central train station is literally around the corner and you can access the Hotel from its back entrance if coming from this direction. The Hotel does not have a grand entrance and the Reception is accessed via a small lift up to the 2nd Floor. The check in lady was nice enough and gave clear instructions to my room, internet access and check out time. Staff were always helpful. My room was 313 on the 3rd floor. You access it with a keyless fob - like a contactless card. My immediate impression of the room was of space and light, modern and minimalist. It is an old building so the windows are huge Victorian ones - beautiful! I had a large comfortable bed with crisp white linen, lovely big shower with complimentary soap, shampoo and shower gel. There is air con in the room which you can switch off and open the window instead if you prefer. There is a TV - I did not use this. There was tea/coffee. An iron, and ironing board and a hairdryer. Best of all for all you girls out there - there was a nice full length mirror. There was also a dressing table and ample storage - should you wish to unpack. I slept soundly for the 2 nights even though the location is bang in the centre of Cardiff. I did not eat here as it is only 3 star rated in terms of food safety and you are so close to a multitude of restaurants, there hardly seems any point! The shopping mall is huge and just so much choice and you are literally right in the centre of it. Highly recommend

Central to All Amenities

Posted 27-Jun-2016
Pros: Walking distance to most places
Cons: Lighting, and make sure the evening staff are trained to serve in bar.
Location: There is loads of nice restaurant's and shops. Also Cinema, Stadium, Castle and Motorhead Arena all walking distance. Area very clean
Found that this Hotel was is a great position, few minutes walking distance from Station, shops, Castle, Stadium and Motorpoint Arena. The hotel is not good for people with walking difficulties as Reception is on 2nd floor which you had to go down very steep steps to get to first lift, then you need to use another lift to get to rooms and then we had two small flights of stairs to negotiate to room. Also found the lighting in the room very dull. The safe was on the floor in cupboard to access this you had to lay on floor but need a torch because of lighting. Found the hotel very quite and rooms clean and quite large.

Comfortable, middle of town

Posted 13-Jun-2016
Aging hotel and certainly nothing upmarket but a quiet and comfortable stay. Could be difficult for some as although there are lifts there are still some stairs. If you don't know to enter from the rear entrance there are lots of stairs!

Central location

Posted 06-Jun-2016
Pros: Location for exploring city centre
Cons: Room layout, include breakfast, noise pollution, biscuits on tea tray
Location: Cardiff castle well worth a visit. Open top bus good, very good tour guides. Walk round to the Barrage lovely. Great tea rooms nearby for breakfast.
Our room was on 7th floor but was still very noisy with all the Friday/Saturday night city centre excesses going on in the street below. Street cleaning started from 6.30 with road sweepers and bottle removals etc. Room was basic and although nicely furnished left a lot to be desired in layout. Bedside cabinet overlapped the bathroom door. Only one small chair in room, basic facilities for tea/coffe. Staff were offhand on both arrival and departure. Both mornings we had poor or no water pressure for shower etc. Response was prompt but why wait till there is an issue to improve water pressure? Overall, I felt that the price paid for bed only in the middle of a noisy area was a bit steep.

Perfect location for Velothlon

Posted 24-May-2016 on Hotels
We stayed at The Royal as I was taking part in Velothlon Wales. The start line is actually at the door steps of the hotel. Location is very central and close to all amenities and railway station. Looking at previous reviews regarding noise, we requested a quite room and we did get a quiet room and had good night sleep. The standard room was good size and with Bath tub & shower. We didn't try the breakfast. The only thing is the room had just one small window which doesn't open and due to the design of the room you can't see outside. However the aircon was there so didn't bother about the window.

O.K. for short stay. Tired looking in public areas

Posted 14-May-2016 on Hotels
Arrived late as trains were disrupted. Young man on reception did not have good English and was low on charm although he did his job. Room adequate for stay of one night although, after travelling for 6 hours, it would have been nice to have been able to have a bath. I had deliberately chosen this hotel because the photos on line showed a bathroom with a bath.

Room was very nice and clean - but shower did not work properly - water pressure kept dropping every 2 seconds and no hot water.

We liked it , from Canada

Cons: It was very warm in the room, need AC
Around the corner from the train station, good location, lots of restaurants and shopping. The staff were great! Would recommend for a couple of night stay, price ok, clean room.
