Usually hotels using very old buildings in England fail to maintain properly so I've come to expect many defects in the hotel room (such as: curtains not closing or damaged, lamps not working, wardrobe doors unclosable, draws that jam, windows that won't open or close properly, inadequate ventilation). It was refreshing to find our room in the Old Hall Hotel well maintained and in good condition with just one fault: a dead lamp bulb. The staff were all delightful and very efficient. The location right on the town centre was ideal for access to the restaurants, Opera House, local shops as well as an excellent base for exploring the Peak District.
