"The hotel and spa are good, but they fall short of what could be a truly excellent guest experience. There are a number of missed opportunities throughout the customer journey. The main issue doesn't appear to be staffing levels, but rather inconsistent training, a lack of management oversight, and insufficient quality control checks. That said, I would return. The spa facilities are enjoyable, the building is impressive, and there is plenty to like. However, I would avoid dining in the hotel restaurant for breakfast or dinner and would probably skip the bar as well. There are numerous excellent alternatives just behind the hotel and across the road that offer better value and service. My advice to future guests would be to check carefully what is and isn't included in your package before arrival, research the parking options in advance, and make use of the valet parking service if it suits you (£30 per day). On arrival, ensure your room has a TV remote and that the complimentary refreshments have been fully stocked. Unfortunately, requests for missing items seemed to fall on deaf ears during our stay. One final surprise was the room service tray charge, which felt excessive and was higher than I've experienced in some luxury Mayfair hotels. Overall, a good hotel with the potential to be great, but one that would benefit significantly from stronger management attention to detail and service standards."

Old Hall Hotel

"When I booked the hotel I got the impression that there was parking there. When we arrived I went into ask where the parking was I was given a map and told to park in a residential street "5 minutes walk away". There were some public parking spaces outside and opposite the hotel (only one space opposite when we arrived) but the signs indicated it was maximum of 4 hours so we did park in one of the residential streets suggested. That night when someone checked in we heard the member of hotel staff say that if he paid the hotel (we didn't hear how much) they would give him a permit to put in his car for 24 hours. As my husband has breathing difficulties, if we had been given that option, we would have happily paid so were rather annoyed that I wasn't told about that, either before or on arrival."

"I always enjoy staying at Queens head when I am in Buxton: good people, good service and unpretentious lovely place to stay."

The Jug and Glass Inn

"The location is great and the countryside scenery is beautiful. There is a large free car park and check in was easy. The room was nicely decorated. The bar area was a little dated but quirky and cosy. I did however feel that it was mis-advertised on hotels.com as it clearly states "housekeeping (daily)". There wasn't any housekeeping and the room wasn't cleaned throughout our stay, nor was anything replenished which was disappointing. One tiny plastic shower gel bottle is not sufficient for 2 people staying for 2 nights! Towels should be changed and coffee/milk should be topped up. There was a file in the room that stated not to leave the radiators on "as they didn't want to heat the whole of Derbyshire" which I thought was just entertainment from a jokey type of host but upon meeting them I realised they were serious and weren't particularly friendly or hospitable! This place has so much potential but I did feel that the service was a bit unfriendly."

"Last minute room only deal which was very reasonable for a Friday night. Hotel was very central and parking for £5 very reasonable. Weather was lovely so we didn’t get time to use the Swimming pool (which was £6 each). We enjoyed sitting on the lovely lawn area having drinks."

"Lovely comfortable property, perfect for our needs. Great to have a separate loo downstairs in addition to the two bathrooms upstairs in our barn conversion (there appears to be another rental here). Well equipped and Jo was very friendly, helpful and advised on best places to go, eat and places to check out in the local area. Beautiful views and tranquil setting, enjoyed the sound of the cuckoo outside! Thanks for the wine and biscuits! Would love to stay again."

"The blind bull is a little slice of luxury set in an idyllic location and providing top flight services. The food is amazing. The staff are very kind and helpful and accommodations wonderfully sumptuous. Highly recommend it and we will definitely be back."
