Whenever I'm down that way, the Bird in Hand is always the first place I look for availability. Not the biggest place but then the attraction is that it isn't one of those sterile chain hotels. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, the beds are comfortable, the meals plentiful and the breakfast filling. All in all the perfect stopover.

Old building full of character

This is a gastropub with new accommodation in what appears to be an old stable block behind, stylishly and sensibly converted. The bed, bath and other facilities were excellent -- and the food even moreso. The bar is well-stocked and the manager knowledgeable about the spirits, the waiting staff are efficient and unobtrusive, and the menus imaginative and well-executed. We had a friendly welcome from Jane and her staff. The room was comfortable and breakfast was excellent. The pub closed early on Sunday night, so we had to go elsewhere for food, but it meant a very peaceful night. Strongly recommended!

Very pleased to find it in a small village outside reading, with several medieval houses and near the river, though not on it. good restaurant and pub, and very busy.

Beautiful hotel, recently renovated which means they have state of the showers, beautiful throws and proper duvets, spotless white gorgeous bedding, fantastic decor throughout the hotel. The rooms are separated slightly from the fullers pub with a separate entrance. The breakfast was fabulous where you can order from a menu and food is made to order and fresh, included full English breakfast, eggs florentine, pancakes with fruit and maple syrup, porridge with fresh fruit. Its great to find a hotel you can stay for just one night over the weekend. I was looking for somewhere close to London (34 miles away), with great reviews, good food and accommodation and places to visit nearby. The Bel and Dragon had all of that. The room was tastefully furnished (with free sloe gin - added bonus!) and the hotel was cosy and characterful. I am kind of reluctant to write this as I want to keep this little Gem a secret all for myself, but I have to share with you all what a wonderful place the Bel and Dragon is. Right from the start I was greeted by a roaring log fire and a friendly face at checkout, whilst being shown my room the complementary 10yr and 12yr old whiskeys for the guests to sample where pointed out. Absolutely fantastic stay in a lovely cosy pub. Staff could not have been more helpful. The room we stayed in was amazing add to this the fantastic food and atmosphere and it all adds up to a memorable stay. We will be back again.

Absolutely Outstanding Stay We had a fantastic stay at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Virginia Water and couldn't have been more impressed. The rooms were beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, modern and exceptionally comfortable. The room was cosy and clean and lovely with an amazing shower. And plenty of hot water. Bed was super comfy and I slept very well. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Great initial welcome from Mike, backed up by some wonderful idiosyncratic features that uplifted the stay. Complimentary Sipsmiths Sloe Gin in the room, choice of two single malt whiskies (also complimentary) and freshly brewed coffee at the refreshments station were unexpected and warmly enjoyed! Really welcoming staff, lovely room, bed comfy, room really clean and well thought out, a little gem if a hotel near to Kingston, parking on site tricky as only three spaces and all permit holder parking nearby, but staff really helpful with this, breakfast at 0730 but missed as had to be somewhere for 0800 and not prepared for guests going down at half seven. Options looked amazing thought. Will definitely stay again as want to sample the menu 😀

Easy to get out and about, wonderful hosts great value for money

Our welcome from Alijia was very warm and friendly. She couldn’t do any more to make us very welcome. All staff were very attentive. Our room was comfortable but the shower needs an overhaul. Good pressure on shower, but curtain not good. Breakfast was excellent. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will return.
