Bodmin Jail Hotel
"Such a unique and fascinating hotel to stay in. From the start you're already curious about what you would encounter during your stay and as soon as you walk in, the "jail" vibe just hits, but with it an air of pure luxury is felt throughout and every detail has been considered. The walls in your room are a mix of modern plaster but where they can, they've left the original exposed brickwork that the prisoners would have seen and felt when they were in there 200+ years ago. I believe most rooms are 3 original cells knocked through, creating a luxurious bedroom space with dressing table and then provides a beautiful en-suite which looks stunning. Underfloor heating makes the room feel welcoming and there is air conditioning in each room which again makes it feel homely rather than the cold cell it once was. The rooms all have a plaque which gives details of a prisoner who was homed in your room (cell). I did expect a little more exciting than a woman who spent 2 months in there for stealing milk, but they have to keep it low-key I suppose. The breakfast was delicious and for a Sunday, it was very busy but they handled it efficiently. I would recommend the restaurant although it is quite pricey. Sadly, no encounters during the night of anything other-worldly, but we absolutely loved our stay there and it has been a huge talking point with friends since we stayed. Would return for sure!"

Keepers Cottage - sleeps 2 adults, 2 children and your dogs
"Keepers cottage is a gorgeous little 2 bedroom semidetached, surrounded by a farm. We stayed for 3 nights and it was myself, my daughter and our pooch. It was pet friendly for our dog but I imagine it would be too difficult for an old dog as the wooden stairs are quite steep. There is an exercise area for dogs and a poo bin. Expect noise morning and evening from the working farm. The noise didn’t trouble us at all. We didn’t get to meet the farm animals as they were off limits due to it being a working farm. The bed was very comfortable and clean and we both had good nights sleep. The kitchen was well equipped. The bathroom is a wetroom and is small but perfect for our party of 2.The location of the cottage was excellent between the North and South coasts of Cornwall about a 30 minute drive to both. We enjoyed a walk from Rock to Polzeath and back and another walk down the River Fowey from Lanhydrock. We also enjoyed a meal at The Old Inn at St Breward which we have visited before. It’s the highest pub in Cornwall. We enjoyed the little shops of Wadebridge on a rainy day. The games in the cottage were great for entertainment in the evenings. The WiFi was excellent inside the cottage. We couldn’t make use of the balcony- rain!John was excellent at communicating before and during our stay and was very helpful at answering all my many questions!All in all we had a lovely short break. Thank you John! (We didn’t meet John or any other people living on the farm)"

The south-western county of Cornwall draws in visitors from all over the world, thanks largely to its abundance of natural beauty. Many people travel to Cornwall in search of the perfect wave, or just to laze on its many glorious, sandy beaches. But venture beyond the coast and you'll discover that some of the county's most spectacular natural charms can be found inland. Bodmin Moor is a stunning expanse of countryside, home to an array of welcoming hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses.
Brown Willy: the Highest Point
Whether you're a serious walker looking for a challenge, or are just keen to look upon the county's highest point, Brown Willy is an impressive landmark. The Tor is actually an ancient volcanic 'plug' and is located a short distance north-west of Bolventor, in east Cornwall. Nearby accommodation includes the intimate Mennabroom, which also houses a business centre, and the Trehellas House Hotel and Restaurant, closer to the busy little town of Wadebridge.
Dozmary Pool: the Stuff of Legends
Bodmin Moor is an atmospheric and at times mysterious place, so it won't surprise visitors to learn that much of it is steeped in legend. One of the most popular spots of legend on the moor is Dozmary Pool. The small body of water is said to be the home of the Lady of the Lake, who offered the famous sword Excalibur to King Arthur. It's said that the sword was hurled into the pool once again following King Arthur's death in battle. The water is also home to some spectacular animal and plant-life.
Golfing on the Moor
Areas of natural beauty tend to lend themselves to outdoor activities. Fortunately for golfers, there are plenty of fine courses in the county, particularly in the area around Bodmin Moor. The Trethorne Hotel and Golf Club offers golfers the chance to tee of within the hotel grounds. Set in stunning grounds, the hotel also caters for weddings and corporate events.
Day Trips
Cornwall is a relatively small county, meaning there are plenty of fabulous things to see and do within a short distance of Bodmin Moor. The north coast offers ample opportunity for keen surfers to get wet, while the south coast is blessed with an abundance of pretty villages and sheltered coves, and some excellent hotels and B&Bs to choose from too.
