Arundel Lido was opened in 1960, and underwent a period of closure and refurbishment in 1999. Today it's open once again, and is the only remaining lido in West Sussex. It's a popular spot for families during the summer months. Visitors to the Lido will find accommodation in the area ranging from budget youth hostels and traditional inns to four star chain hotels, ideal for those visiting Arundel on business.
The Lido has two pools as well as a children's pool, with sun loungers, parasols and picnic tables. A café serves lunch, snacks and light refreshments, and there's a pay and display car park on site. As well as being used for leisure purposes, the Lido can be hired for groups, parties or even corporate events. Business travellers attending events at the Lido will find chain hotels in Arundel town centre offer excellent value for money, with amenities such as free WiFi, meeting spaces and free self-parking. Families and couples enjoying a break in Arundel can choose from B&Bs and independent hotels, most within easy walking distance of the Lido.
There's more to Arundel than its Lido, though. Arundel Castle, built in the 11th Century, is one of the best preserved castles in the country, and well worth visiting. Climb the hill to Arundel Cathedral to admire its French-Gothic architecture, or enjoy a spooky family afternoon out at Arundel Jailhouse. The compact town centre makes it easy to get around on foot, and most hotels are close to the train station, with many offering free parking and complimentary breakfasts, for the perfect start to your day.
Families with younger children will find that Arundel has plenty of options when it comes to dining out. Cafés, fast food joints, traditional pubs and chain restaurants sit side by side with independent eateries in the town centre, so whether you're in the mood for Italian, Chinese or some good British pub grub, you'll find it here. Larger chain hotels and inns in the town have their own restaurants; most are happy to cater for children. Hotels here have a wealth of amenities, with many providing in-room TVs and DVD players, great for keeping kids entertained on rainy afternoons.
