Built in 1836, Arundel Town Hall Prison (today Arundel Jailhouse) housed inmates who had been convicted in the court upstairs. Today it's one of the South East's spookiest tourist attractions, giving visitors a taste of life in a Victorian prison. Hotels close to the Jailhouse include several well-established independent hotels, as well as chain hotels, youth hostels and B&Bs in Arundel itself and nearby Littlehampton.
Arundel attracts couples, families and business travellers throughout the year, and the town centre is compact and easy to navigate on foot. For those wanting to stay near Arundel Jailhouse, independent hotels such as The Swan, with its own restaurant and bar, or The Norfolk Arms with its complimentary breakfast, are excellent choices. You'll also find chain hotels and B&Bs offering amenities for families such as free Wi-Fi and laundry services, great if you're travelling with babies or younger children.
Arundel castle dates back to the 11th Century and is one of the best preserved castles in England. Arundel Cathedral's French-Gothic spires tower over the town, and the nearby Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre is well worth visiting to find out more about the area's history. Cosy B&Bs in 16th century buildings offer an alternative to modern chain hotels for those who prefer accommodation with character.
Arundel town centre has a wide range of bars, restaurants and cafés to choose from. Arundel Jailhouse transforms into a lively bar at night with live music, stand-up comedy and theatre. For lunches or snacks, tea rooms such as Swanbourne Lodge are great for families, whilst the High Street is home to independent eateries, chain restaurants and pubs serving home-cooked food. With many hotels in the area boasting their own restaurants, you won't need to go far for your evening meal!
Hotels in Arundel provide excellent amenities for couples enjoying a romantic break or families on holiday. Free WiFi, on-site parking and complimentary breakfasts are just some of the amenities which will make any stay in Arundel a memorable one.
