Once considered the quieter little sister to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates’ capital has expanded rapidly. Fine food, incredible modern architecture and heart-stopping amusement parks have helped transform the Abu Dhabi’s capital into a five-star destination.

As centre of operations for a number of major oil companies, Abu Dhabi is known for its over-the-top wealth and opulence. With 1.5 million residents, Abu Dhabi is a crowded metropolitan centre and has some of the world’s tallest buildings. Discover the awe-inspiring city skyline, seaside resorts and high-class dining that this ever-growing city has to offer.

It’s at the hotels of Abu Dhabi that you’ll find most of the city’s nightlife, as these are the only places that can legally sell alcohol. Among the most lavish is the grand Emirates Palace, which can be found on the coastal tip of the city. Spoil yourself to a seven-star hotel, with access to a private beach and a whole selection of sporting facilities, along with some of Abu Dhabi’s finest restaurants. Not surprisingly for a place that welcomes big spenders, the hotel is conveniently located near the best shopping in the city – head to Abu Dhabi Mall for three stories of retail therapy bliss. For the best views over the city, take a trip up the Etihad Towers’ Observation Deck at 300.

Looking for a little excitement? Then how about visit the site of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Travelling with family? Ride one of the fastest roller coasters in the world at Ferrari World. Why not cool off at Yas WaterworldOpens in a new window and make the most of Abu Dhabi’s year-round very warm weather. All this can be found at Yas Island, just a 30 minutes Drive from the city and one of the most popular destinations in Abu Dhabi. You can get great deals on the Yas Park Pass with Expedia.

The summer heat can be overwhelming, so few people choose to move between attractions on foot. Rent a car at the international airport or use the city’s air-conditioned bus service, which serves even the farthest reaches of the city.
