I really enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Caribe. I had been there many years ago as a child and I was not disappointed. The room was clean, the bed very comfortable, the food in the restaurants good and the air conditioning a blessing. I had forgotten how hot and humid Cartagena could be. The gardens were beautiful. For the most part, the service was good, but some of the wait staff in the restaurant where the buffet is set up did not smile or greet me. Eduardo Galindo in Guest Relations was outstanding and such a help when setting up tours or transportation to and from the airport. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to others visiting Cartagena.
Good hotel for the price. Great location. Beautiful view of the beach. Lina Guerra from the housekeeping staff was a sweetheart. They should vary the breakfast food, we were there for a week and they had the same food everyday.
It was a good experience at Intercontinental hotel. The rooms are spacious and modern, the hotel inside was also very modern and cleaned, including swimming pool and bars. The gym was very poor, very low number of options and it was built on a meeting room.
The food and the drinks were great but service very very poor. But, on friday when I asked for a drink that was on the list, they did not have it because were missing the ingredients, sunday asked for the same drink and still missing the same ingredient and on monday asked for a different drink and they were also missing ingredients for that drink. This together with the long waiting time was very annoying.
For the checkout, we called reception to prepare the bill to speed up the process, and when we came down nothing was done. I was being charged for the room when I paid everything upfront. But the biggest and uncomfortable mistake was when the lady suggested that I had a "visitor" with me and that I had to pay, when I reserve the room for two persons: myself and my fiance!
I was tempted to cancel my reservation after I read the reviews of this hotel.. I had already paid for my reservation and was really upset to learn their no cancellation policy.. and then I was really surprised to find out that Expedia supported and enforced their policy when I called them over the phone. My overall experience at the Zalmedina was "okay". This is NOT a 4 STAR hotel.. Maybe a 3 Star on my standards..The hotel is conveniently located across the street from a fairly new Casino, plenty of restaurants and shops near by, and plenty of taxis all times of the day/ night which made it very easy to get around town. Taxi ride from the airport to hotel more less $20 thousand pesos = $7 dollars more less and $7 thousand pesos = more less $3 dollars to go to the Walled city.. inexpensive. Our room was clean and the staff were very pleasant and willing to help. There is no working elevator on the first floor which for us wasn't a big issue but could be for someone who is not willing to carry their luggage up the stairs.. the mattress was nice but the double bed was combined by two single beds and we found ourselves in the middle of the night being split apart as the beds came apart. There was a complimentary breakfast which was okay.. nothing to rave about.. your ordinary breads, fresh fruits, scrambled eggs.. The room could also use a dresser/ night stand to place our belongings. other than that it was clean, comfortable and I would stay there again if I needed to
