We recently spend one night at Villa Principe Leopoldo in Lugano. Beautiful neighborhood setting with great views of the lake. Our room was in the "residences", which is across the street from the main hotel building, but that is really not an inconvenience at all. I've stayed at hotels where the room is MUCH farther away than in this situation. Rooms are spacious and very nice. Loved having our own outdoor patio. It felt much to me like a Beverly Hills or Bel Air setting.
My wife and I spent 2 amazing nights at Karhaus last week and it totally exceeded our expectations. Not only was the view amazing (their pictures did not lie) but the facility, rooms, common areas a, spa, pool, and dining room were new, clean and very pleasing. The staff was amazing from the front desk, the restaurant, and the spa, courteous, helpful, and very friendly. The Chef was amazing and adapted his recipes to accommodate my wife's food allergies without any impact on the quality or flavor of the food; in other words they totally lived up to their healthy lifestyle passion and mission. Most staff spoke English so there was no language barrier. The drives up and down were thrilling as the road is narrow but well worth the challenge. We would recommend for those who don't enjoy such rides to hire a taxi or perhaps see if the hotel could pick you up at the train station. We are DEFINITELY going back!
The hotel was very charming, clean and the room was A+. The staff was top notch. I loved the breakfast buffet. So many wonderful things to select and the presentation was beautiful. The hotel is very close to many stores, the lake and museums. I will certainly stay here again and highly recommend it.

A well maintained, grandly decorated hotel on the edge of Lake Lugano. Very friendly and helpful reception, concierge and bar staff (we did not eat in the hotel restaurant, but room service food was fine), with a clean and comfortable room. Only slight let-down was the balcony, which was only reasonably clean and not particularly inviting (our room was located on the end of the hotel), although it had a fine view out over Lake Lugano.

The location was stunning, the staff superb, the free breakfast incredible, the town and shopping lovely. The staff could not do enough for us. The amenities are first class. Would rate a 10 if I could.
Wonderful to see our daughter before she left for Rwanda nov 1. Could have held her forever! Beautiful scenery, lots to do, be prepared to do lots and lots of walking. Wonderful little shops, reasonably priced restuarants/trattorias nearby, and there simply is not one bad view.. Walk along the lake, the public restrooms quite clean, be prepared to scoot out of the way when the lunch hour begins...tons of international students from every part of the globe scurrying on foot and bikes trying to catch a quick lunch before next class. Very friendly people, multi lingual, respond to courtesy when treated politely. Please, do not be an ugly disgruntled traveler! We had a marvelous, tho too short time in Lugano, would have do e more, but main reason was to see our daughter before she finishes up in Rwanda. Would have loved to take boat excursion, not enough time, but really enjoyed just taking it nice and easy. There is not one bad thing thing about Lugano at all. Do a bit of planning before you get there, take advantage of special deals because it is pricey. If you're there as a tourist, pretend you're a houseguest who wants to be asked back and you can't go wrong.
