“Surprisingly nice”

Don't let the exterior fool you. I have been to St Pete Beach numerous times visiting my son who is attending Eckerd College. I have commented on previous trips how "cheesy" this hotel looks from the street and thinking to myself I have no desire to stay there. On my most recent trip, the price was right so I gave it a try. The room was surprisingly up to date and comfortable. We liked the openness of the room and the in-room accomodations. The back patio area with the shuffle board and easy access to the beach were perfect for what we needed on this trip. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will consider it for any future trip to St Pete Beach.

Area recommendations

Fort Desoto is a must when visiting St Pete Beach. Awesome beach with good shelling and sealife viewing. Downtown St Petersburg has many great restaurants and museums to compliment those beach days when you need a break from the sun.

Dining

Skyway Jacks on 34th street is an awesome local "hole-in-the-wall" type restaurant. Hightly recommended for breakfast. Bring cash as they do not accept credit cards. The Frog Pond on Gulf Blvd is another great restaurant with a local feel. Great food and very generous portions. A short drive into downtown St Petersburg to visit Tijuana Flats is well worth it. Great mexican style food at very reasonable prices and an awesome salsa bar to test your heat tolereance and experiment with different flavors. Although you order at the counter and have the food brought out to your table be sure to tip well when you order, the wait staff does not allow you to bus your table and go out of their way to serve you while you dine.

“Great small resort”

Our family loved staying here for about 3 days. It was wonderful for the kids to walk right out of our room, barefoot, and head straight for the patio out back where they could swim in a lovely little pool, or play games like shuffleboard on the patio. From there, they could head straight out into the soft, white sand of the beach. It was nice, as a family, to find a room that would sleep all six of us. It was a bit cramped having that many in the room, with one very small bathroom, but we were thankful we didn't have to book two rooms. We enjoyed cooking simple meals in the little kitchenette. The beach was wonderful and it was nice to be able to relax poolside, and overlook the ocean. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Area recommendations

St. Petersburg beach was wonderful....white sand, warm Gulf water, and with a lot of shells!

“Nothing less than perfect!”

We just came back from the Plaza Beach. We had a wonderful time - very quiet and relaxing. The hotel is right on the beach, has a great pool and a lot of things to do nearby. We loved our room - it had everything needed for a family vacation. Our son (3 years old) was exited that there were so many toys in the trunk by the beach. Across the street from the hotel were many stores and some restaurants, also -boat rides. Very convenient and absolutely no-stress. I am only sorry we did not stay longer, but I will recommend it to all our friends and hopefully we will go back.

“Had a good stay”

verall it was very good. The outside was a little dissapointing but it was clean and nice. Room was small but we spent most of our time at the beach.

“Definitely plan on returning to and recommending this hotel.”

Well kept, beautiful old Florida hotel. The staff, from the front desk to room staff to maintenance men, were incredible. Only shortcoming, the towels were a but flimsy and not soft at all. Bring you own! Did not miss the fact that there is no restaurant on property, your room's efficiency kitchen is sufficient. Also glad there is no bar on the property, it was very restful. The guests we met have been going to the Plaza Beach Hotel for 15+years and were very friendly. Beach is right in your backyard. Pool and lanai just lovely. Beautiful, tranquil and just outstanding.

Dining

Buona Pizza and Blue Fugu were great places to eat and just down the street.

“Nice Hotel!”

I had a superior view room and it was wonderful. The room was nice, little kitchenette, bed was comfortable. Had wished the water pressure for the shower was stronger. Not much shade is available at the pool. the cabanas they offer are just straight back wicker cabana chairs that you can't move. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel even with my few complaints. The employees were all so very very nice!!! Our room was very clean and a nice size. I loved our ocean view from our room. We sat outside to eat breakfast every morning. I would recommend this hotel!! The price was great as well!

“Nice, clean hotel.”

“Love this place!”

You can't go wrong at the Plaza Beach! In fact, I hesitate to write too good of a review: we want to make sure that we can get a room the next time we go to St. Pete Beach. Our stay was from May 21 to May 28. I cannot report on the hotel's reaction to any problems, because we didn't have any.

Area recommendations

For dining, we recommend Cafe Luna, several blocks up Gulf Blvd from the Plaza Beach, and Seasons 52 in Tampa.
