Great Staff

Posted 27-Aug-2014
Pros: The Staff , the room, and the food.
Cons: Bit of money spent on refreshing our bathroom, but it was a good size.
Location: Great position right in the middle of town, and near the river.
The room was a good size with a lovely view over the river/park. With a small amount spent on tarting up the bathroom, it would have got 5 stars from us. Decided to eat in the hotel. Great decision. Good food. Great service. Nice atmosphere. Also a good choice at breakfast. I guess the hotel is used for coach tours, but no bad thing, and gave it a better atmosphere.

A very welcoming and comfortable hostelry

Posted 11-Aug-2014
Pros: Just about everything.
Cons: Better access from the car park.
Location: Lovely little town in the middle of the Scottish borders. Loads of things to visit in the area as long as you have a car.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and the ambience comfortable and welcoming. The public lounge was very relaxing with big comfy chairs and a good menu including cocktails. The dining room was based in what was probably originally the town assembly room (hotel was built in 1808). The food was extremely good and the staff professional and charming. Our room was in the original part of the hotel and was charming with a huge bed and a bay window. The shower was hot and powerful. Towels were good and the room was clean. Only problems were a lack of air conditioning ( probably not usually needed in the Scottish Borders) which meant we had to open the window with resulting traffic noise and the lack of a lift which meant carrying luggage up the stairs. I would certainly recommend this hotel and would stay there again. We really liked Peebles and found everyone there was friendly and happy to have a chat. The hotel was in the main street and handy for everything.

Charming and Comfortable

Our room was clean and comfortable. A soak in the spacious tub was wonderful after a day of walking. The breakfast was great and the dining room beautiful.

Pros: Staff and food very impressive, Location lovely in heart of Peebles.
Cons: Our room was rather cramped at top of the building but we got the last one available.
Location: Only stayed 2 days but Peebles a lovely town and great to wander around. Lots of things to do yards from hotel.
Lovely setting and lovely hotel. Staff very impressive - helpful and friendly.

Very time period oriented, but remodeled too

Posted 28-Apr-2014
Pros: I liked the history involved (built by French prisoners during the war, etc), the available parking, the many areas one could lounge & location.
Cons: The beds...
Location: The hotel was basically in the center of town, with a river and green space behind it, easy access to shops, other hotels & restaurants.
We stayed 3 days, two nights. The staff was exceptional, the room airy & clean, the bathroom larger than we expected and the service was very good throughout our stay and also in the main dining hall where we ate breakfast. The only complaint was the hardness of the beds. The desk did everything in their power to help us, but since they had just switched basically the entire hotel over to the new mattresses, they were limited in what they could do. We still left happy; we slept on two fluffy duvets plus an extra mattress pad.

Tatty and scruffy room

Posted 04-Feb-2014 on Hotels.com
The staff were very helpful and friendly but was very disappointed with cleanliness of room, especially the bathroom. Also paintwork and plasterwork in the bedroom was scruffy and in need of refreshing. We were in rooms which were accessed via link corridor to the main hotel and there was a lot of items being stored under the stairs that again detracted from the overall stylish atmosphere that was shown in the main part of the hotel. High hopes but very disappointed.

We had a one night stay and the hotel was bang in the centre of town which was perfect. This allowed us yo explore the surrounding area and towns. The room was spacious wiyh an enormous four poster bed which was extremely comfortable. Service was impecable.

Great location in great town. Rooms very acceptable. The wooden corridors can be a nuisance when guests return to their rooms.
