Nice hotel close to York, get the breakfast.

Posted 11-Jan-2015
Pros: The breakfasts where wonderful. The staff where very friendly and helpful. The rooms where very clean.
Cons: The shower was a little temperamental, but not enough to really complain about.
Location: Just outside the walls of York, and close to the train station. Plenty of independent shops and caf├ęs, and even a cinema a five minute walk away.
The first impression of the hotel was Lindsey, who met us with an energetic smile and a helpful attitude. She made us feel very relaxed and chatted with us about our visit. Our room was at the very top of the hotel, but this gave us a great view. The room was spotlessly clean and pleasantly comfortable. The free wifi was easy to set up. We decided on our last day to try the breakfasts, then kicked ourselves all the way home for not trying it sooner. The full English was delicious, and they even provided vegetarian sausages. They had a full selection of breads, croissants, and crumpets, as well fairly decent Rainforest Alliance coffee. Overall a great stay.

Very convenient for York Centre

Posted 13-Dec-2014
Pros: Friendliness of staff and ease of access.
Cons: Car park access. Although we had no trouble it could be a problem when hotel is full.
Location: Convenient location just outside the Roman city wall. York is a lovely city even in December with its Christmas market. We found it totally absorbing.
We only stayed 1 night while visiting our granddaughter at York university.Room was basic but clean and comfortable . Breakfast was extra but well worth it. Easy walk to York centre but drive to the university difficult negotiating York traffic system . For short stays the hotel is very good value.

Lower than average budget hotel

Posted 04-Dec-2014
This hotel is old and dated, there really isn't anything good about this hotel other than the location is about 20 minutes walk from town. The free parking is not controlled by the hotel so others park in the 20 spaces which leaves only a few spare once the staff have parked also During our stay it turns out there was construction taking place but we were not notified of this until we got into the lift to our room. The workmen were not quiet at all and all the noise started at 8am, it got so bad we cut short our stay by a night. I would strongly recommend everyone to avoid this 'hotel'

Good location but very overpriced

Posted 03-Dec-2014
We booked the Ibis quite far in advance and were surprised by how expensive it was but everywhere else was booked up. I know what you get with Ibis but for the price we paid i'd have expected a lot more. Our room was basic, as expected, but with a grubby sofa bed in the corner, the windows were mouldy and you needed to be very strong to open them even an inch. The bathroom was pretty ropey. There were a few hairs on the towels, the shower was strong but the temperature was completely uncontrollable, boiling one minute, freezing the next and the extractafan didn't switch on at all. The saving grace for Ibis York is that the staff are lovely and it's close to the station. We would not stay again at that price.

Pleasant hotel close to centre and train station.

Posted 13-Nov-2014
Pros: Location and price. Comfort.
Cons: Hotel is in mid refresh of public areas & rooms, so do look for later reviews. Looks clean & fresh. Any work in progress did not affect us.
Location: Railway museum (free) is a must (allow a full day), plus Castle Museum, & the Minster. Visit Barnitts store for an amazing range of household goods.
Had a good 3 night stay in early Nov 2014. Hotel is about 300 mtrs outside the city walls, about 600 mtrs from main railway station, and about 850 mtrs from Ouse Bridge, so well positioned for City Centre. We had a clean comfortable room, & the heating was appreciated as temperatures dropped. Reception staff friendly and efficient at checkin/out, we arrived a bit before 1400 - our room was ready, and appreciated the 1200 checkout on a cold day. Room serviced each day to good standard. Didn't take the hotel breakfast as cheaper alternatives nearby, but would be a good option for a rainy morning. Unless you have heavy luggage you can easily walk to/from station, no need for taxi. Much of inner City Centre is pedestrian only during day. If visiting by car there are several Park & Ride services on the outskirts. Lots of shopping, pubs, restaurants, tea shops.

Not what I was expecting for the price we paid !!

Posted 06-Nov-2014
Pros: Its central & close to Shambles
Cons: its going through a refit but this should of been mentioned on the Expedia site.
The room was way too small for 2 people- should be sold as a single room. There wasn't even enough room to change. The bathroom door was rotten & there was mould around the bedroom window. The only good thing about the room, is that the window could open.

Pros: Free parking
Cons: all of the guest rooms and the associated corridors / stairs / landings - all very poor
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our stay at the Ibis hotel, York. Although the location is quite good the quality of the interior of the rooms and the landings / passage ways was dreadful.... Large cracks could be seen in the walls around literally all of the door architraves of the hotel room doors. The room that we checked into was very outdated and was dirty - even the white walls were mucky. The quality of the bedding was extremely basic too. We decided that the room was so bad that we would ask at reception if there were any better rooms. The woman on the desk was very helpful and showed us another room which was slightly better (better, newer bedding) but it still wasn't up to much. In short the hotel is clearly being 'done up' but at slow pace and staying 'fully available' though out this work period. If we had known about the condition of the rooms we would've booked to have stopped else where. I feel very annoyed with Ibis for not making it clear that the age old interior is being slowly renewed and guested have to put up with a low standard of hotel in the meantime! And i can see why people are being misled... The downstairs reception area has been renovated and is quite smart, so on the face of it all is well. To sum up, the hotel was very poor and we were so disappointed (having really looked forward to going away there) that we are planning to write to Ibis to complain

Good location but disappointing

Parking is first come first serve, with about 20 spaces probably all used up by staff. Doors slamming throughout the night including a 3am argument in the corridor. Not a comfortable stay.
