Reasonable price, handy for the city.

Posted 13-Sep-2014
Pros: It is in easy walking distance of the city attractions. The room was quite large with windows looking out over the street. The bed was comfortable.
Cons: The decor was a bit tired, the air-con unit was noisy, the fan in the bathroom not working and it would be nice to have a non slip bath mat in place.
Location: Close to Micklegate Bar, the Bar Convent Museum and an easy walk to the Railway Museum, Minster and shops. Lots of pubs and restaurants nearby.
We arrived on foot by way of the city wall from the station which was nice. On check in we were told the price of the breakfast but not invited to buy it then. It would have helped if we had because we were confused in the morning as whether we were going to be charged twice after we paid at reception and were then asked for our room number as we prepared to leave the dining room. A minor detail but it seemed a bit disorganised.

Rough round the edges, woefully understaffed

Posted 16-Jul-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Staffing levels at night (10pm), better aircon
The car park was full on arrival but it was advertised as having a small car park so this was expected as we arrived late (10pm). What we did not expect to find was a wait of 10 minutes to get into the hotel followed by an unmanned reception desk. (We were finally let into the reception by other guests returning after a meal). After deciding it would be easier to find our own alternative car parking than waiting for someone to advise alternative parking. We were then treated to another 5 minutes wait at the front door waiting to get into the property on return from parking and was also joined by another guest who's room key would not activate the front door. After making it to the reception, it was clear that the receptionist/bar man/waiter was heavily over run with food orders, drinks orders and we needed to wait another 5 mins before we were acknowledge and told it would be with us when he could get to us. The negative review in no way reflects on the efforts of the 1 man left to fulfil 3 roles, however is aimed at the ibis management for not providing enough staff to keep the hotel running smoothly. I'm sure there were mitigating circumstances, but our first impressions of this hotel don't leave us able to recommend it to anyone else. The room was clean but a little rough around the edges. As it was very warm that day, we tried to cool the room with the air conditioning but the fan was so noisy it prevented us sleeping.

Convenient hotel with excellent staff

Posted 11-Jul-2014
Pros: Staff were helpful and friendly. Beds were comfy and the location was also good.
Cons: Its is rather plain upstairs and in the rooms. Parking also caused a problem as our coach driver had to stay somewhere else to park the coach.
Location: It was walking distance to the centre of York without being noisy and busy. We traveled easily to Harrogate and walked around the sights in York.
We booked 8 rooms for a club coach trip from Ireland. We got a great deal on the price and the hotel was adequate for what we needed. My room was large and had 3 beds in - a double bed, a double sofa bed and a large single bed. All were very comfortable. Some others found their rooms smaller but still with large beds. It was very warm in the rooms but we found an electric fan in the room to blow cool air which helped. The breakfast was popular with our group and a reasonable price. It was a little mouldy round the window frames but apart from that it was very clean and tidy if a little plain. Overall we were very happy with the rooms for the price we paid.

Close to city centre

Nothing more to add, my rating says it all! Room was adequate for an overnight stay but considering we stayed 2 I felt a little more would have been nice. The cost at £115 per night I thought expensive.

Very good budget hotel

Good location, just along the road from Micklegate Bar. 15 mins and you are in central York. Didn't eat in house so can't comment. Reception area and bar / lounge look very good. Room was good, shower was very good and powerful enough. Would probably stay again.

Convenient Location and a good price

Fairly central, small free car park - we arrived about 1pm and got a space but there was only one other space available. Small but comfortable room, nice breakfast and friendly staff.
