“Just the Basics”
I came to this budget hotel with realistic expectations and got just a bit more than I expected. Yes, the carpet and furniture are worn but it was clean. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The curtains had some mildew but it did not bother me. The room had a nice coffee/tea set up and a hair dryer. That is all I ask. The location cannot be beat for the price. The neighborhood is safe and lovely. There are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, and pubs all in easy waking distance. Belsize Park is an easy stroll with all of the above besides a bank, groceries, etc. Two tube stations are close so getting out and about is simple. Highlight was being awakened to the sound of horses in the street. About 20 horses were being led down the street right below my window. So charming! Highly recommend the Washington pub for good food and a local feel.
“Underrated and comfortable, in a fantastic location”
My stay here was fantastic. I was in town to play an audition, and they were more than happy to provide me secure storage for my instrument and even chose to place people on my floor in rooms far from mine so I could practice! The staff was helpful, and the Camden location is beautiful. The only complaint - slightly uncomfortable beds, but still, not unbearable.
“Value for money!”
For the money I paid when I booked it I was expecting something very basic but it was extremely clean, comfortable and professionally run. The bar was lively and busy in the evening but quiet enough to enjoy a good catch up with some friends in the area. I had taken my niece with me as she was auditioning at a stage school nearby the following morning. She felt very comfortable and loved the room.
“dec ent”
good value, 10 min walk to tube
“Good value for money”
Nice hotel and very good value for money also has a bar and snacks available for a late night drink and munchies.
“Cheap but good value”
Good location, great value.
“Good deal for London!”
As you might have heard - London is a very expensive city to visit. This was my first time there & I was on a budget. This hotel seemed ok by American standards, but very good by English/London ones. 2 tube stations a 10 minute walk away - Chalk Farm/Northern Line & Swiss Cottage/Jubilee line. Both lines will take you downtown in 10 minutes. Located in a nice (& quiet)residential neighborhood with a Starbucks at the corner and a few inexpensive restaurants near by. Don't eat at the hotel! By a 5 pound phone card (avail. anywhere) to make calls from a public phone, don't use the hotel phone to call overseas! I don't recommend using the tube with heavy luggage at all - too narrow, lots of stairs and escalators that barely fit 2 people side by side. Rather use the Heathrow express to Paddington and then take a 'Mini' - NOT black cab to the hotel. Apprx. 12 pounds plus tip. ATMs are at every corner, but due to the exchange fees, pay with your major credit card as much as you can. Pretty much accepted everywhere, incl. the automatic ticket machines in every tube station. Get a 1-day or 3-day underground pass - best bang for your buck, also covers bus travel downtown. I liked riding the buses, especially on top, but they can be confusing & we got lost one time.
“A great deal in London”
I stayed at this hotel two years ago and did not hesitate to return. The hotel actually improved since my last stay because of some renovations. The breakfast buffet is still very good and was even cheaper than before!! A very nice neighborhood and a ten minute walk to Swiss Cottage or, going the other way, ten minutes to Camden market.
“Good value and location”
Good value (for London). Nice place, reasonably close to tube, but far enough to discourage lazy travellers.
“Nice for the price”
If you're looking for a hotel to spend your whole day in, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want to spend your days in London and need a hotel room to sleep and shower in, this one is great. Clean, comfortable, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. I read some rather negative reviews and, honestly, I don't know where they came from. Our room was not luxurious, certainly, but fine for what we needed. The walk to the tube station (Chalk Farm) took about five minutes, through a quiet neighborhood. Can't speak for the restaurant, since we didn't eat there.
