Great Breakfast
“Excellent Exeter”
Perfectly located for short walk to any part of the city. Reasonably sized room. Room well equipped and furnished to a very acceptable standard. Fitness areas and pool excellent but some gym equipment dated. Beware the £10 per night car parking charges. Would definitely go back.
“Rooms are good enough, but hotel service lacking”
The room, though small, was nice and comfy. Sound proofing was good. Odd omission was coffee/tea sachets (though a kettle & milk were provided). Location is superb and central. We found the bar area to be dark and cramped, and the tables usually overflowing with other peoples' used crockery as the unstaffed bar struggled to cope. The bar area was the only area we were allowed to eat dinner. Despite being residents, we were told the restaurant was full when we turned up for dinner (in fact, about a third of it was in use - the remaining two thirds already laid out for breakfast). As we were still able to order from the menu - and eat in the dingy bar - it wasn't that the kitchen was too busy but rather they were too unaccomodating to clear a table for us. Evening meals were excellent, but room service food hurried and undercooked. Breakfast buffet was budget standard - watery eggs, fatty bacon. Sausages lovely. Tiny slow toaster to feed the whole room. There were few healthy options, cereals limited to the highly-processed . The hotel charges for parking (and expensive) - we parked in a nearby street for free, but as guests paying to use the hotel this came as a surprise. Less able-bodied visitors would have few options. You also have to pay for wireless, which is a bugbear for me. It costs little to provide, and seems mean spirited and out of date. In short: a great place to stay, but park and eat somewhere else.
“Relaxed hotel in the heart of Exeter”
We found the hotel very calming as well as clean and very comfortable, we can't wait to go back and make use of the leisure facilities again.
“Superb all round hotel”
Stayed just one night on way through to Cornwall, having been to Exeter before. Great location - quiet street round the corner from the Cathedral and main centre. Service was excellent and friendly - room was nice (call me old fashioned, but I always like it when you get biscuits to go with your tea/coffee!). Pool was good - 25m - although they could do with a shower poolside to go alongside the sauna. Good breakfast in very pleasant surroundings. Would definitely recommend the Mercure.
“Nice Hotel Sghame about parking charges”
Nice hotel good location freindly staff food good Etc.Downside Parking on top £10 a day not expected for a 4 star hotel Set Sat Nav to Street name not postcode will go back
“Vert good hotel”
The hotel is nice and very central. The breakfast was very good and the room spacious and comfortable. Only drawback, the water in the morning shower was not warm enough.
“City centre hotel”
Smart hotel just around the corner from the Cathedral
“The dearest wine in Devon?”
I arrived at the hotel at about 10pm - the main entrance also seems to be the smoking area and there were four or five people outside in a cloud of smoke - horrible! Parking was £8 a night IN THEIR OWN CAR PARK and the WI FI charges were extortionate. So I went to the bar for a relaxing glass of wine after a long drive - and it was £6.45 A GLASS! Nice room, comfy bed, ok breakfast. But it's a rip off.
“Unsually high levels of service”
I spend a significant part of my year staying in hotels on business. This hotel has some of the best levels of thoughtful and attentive service I have experienced anywhere and most especially in the dining room at breakfast. Often a buffet enables low staffing levels and result in guests being ignored. Not so here. The quality and range of the buffet was outsanding and in retrospect worth buying at the same time as the room. Staff attitudes suggest a well thought through training programme. Although this faltered slightly at Sunday Breakfast when the hotel was full, two minor problems we expereinced were rectified quickly and well. All in all an excellent experience in a comfortable and freindly hotel.
