Overpriced and disappointing Hotel!!!

Posted 09-Mar-2015
My partner and I stayed in the Mercure hotel just 2 nights ago and I can safely say we will not be returning. For the price of £135.20 (for one night) we were expecting at least a clean room with hot running water. As soon as we set eyes on the room we were disappointed. The pictures on the booking websites are a far cry from the reality. We noticed cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, we also attempted to order room service before 10pm but were told we weren't allowed to as "the gas had been turned off". My partners phone, my phone and the television in the hotel room all stated the same time of 9.54pm, however the reception staff insisted that it was after 10pm so room service had ceased!! The next day all I wanted to do was have a hot shower and leave but even that was too much to provide as the water was less than luke warm. £135.20 wasted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Well located.
Room right at the back of the hotel. No view. Room was adequate. Instant coffee was terrible and not enough milk as usual. Staff were very kind to lend us some glasses and plates for a small celebration we had.

Lovely hotel shame about the noisy guests

Posted 28-Jan-2015
Pros: It was very clean and in a great location
lovely hotel in a great location hotel staff were very welcoming and informative however we experienced a disrupted nights sleep as a group of girls returned from their night out hammering on our windows and doors although not the hotels fault it did spoil our stay as you can imagine.

Pros: the bed was comfortable
Cons: software and hardware facilities
Location: a bit far from the railway station. would have stayed another hotel closer to the train station.
would not stay at this hotel again. I think it is only stardard of 3 stars. Not 4 star hotel at all. The hotel need some upgrade again and it looks worn out and old. The receptionist wasn't all welcome. When I arrived, she was still typing on the computer, and ask me to wait. A few minutes later, someone asked her if she wants to have a cup of tea, then she said yes. Until I said is someone else can help me, she then stopped typing on the computer and started to check me in.

Ok, but slightly shabby hotel.

Ok hotel, nothing special, with: Drab room, £25 for overnight parking, and not really enough staff on reception. Good location though on the seafront close to the centre. Get there early to get a parking space though.

Mercure Hotel, Brighton. Christmas 2014

Posted 02-Jan-2015
Pros: Other than the room size (this time) - everything.
Cons: I would have to stay for an extended period - say a week to ten days to make further comment.
Location: Excellent location on the seafront. A mile from the East Pier and Town Centre. Local and multicultural dining. The Lanes, The Pavillion, Entertainment
We stay at the Mercure over the Christmas period because it is a nice, friendly hotel; the best within easy walking distance of our relatives who reside in Brighton. The only negative comment I can make is about the size of the room - a bit on the cramped side for two people. The end of the bed was really close to the dressing table. The room was a good size for one person and a single bed, not a double and two people. Because we were only using it to sleep it was otherwise very nice. This was our third or fourth stay.

Stayed overnight for a party, service we used was excellent. Room was great too, bathroom got a bit steamy because the extractor was rubbish!! Parking seemed pricey at £25 but they let us stay all of the following day so we made a full day if it the following day. Great location too, just a short walk to Churchill square and brighton centre. Will definitely stay again!!!

Mercure Hotel Brighton Seafront.

Posted 17-Dec-2014 on Hotels.com
I ALWAYS stay at the Mercure when I go to Brighton (2 or 3 times a year), always parking (very expensive though, but I can expense it, so it does not matter to me), it's convenient for everything and on a nice day, beautiful views over the beach and sea. This year though, although I got a really nice room (and most rooms are really nice), I was on the 4th floor corner room, the WIND was horrendous and as it's an old building, the old wooden windows rattled and kept me awake all night (x all the nights I was there). I DID utilise some of the literature in the room and jammed it in the window to stop it rattling, but all that did, was create a gap for the wind to howl in, making the room cold. When I checked out, I suggested secondary double glazing, it's not like the rooms are cheap so they can't afford it, I was told 'they'd make maintenance aware of it'. Whether they do fix it or not, who knows. It won't stop me staying there, I will just request to not be in room 408. Still, the staff are great, even back room staff you don't see, friendly and just a nice place to stay.
