Small room with no wifi

Posted 27-Jan-2015
Pros: Quiet and close to every facilities of the city centre.
Cons: Internet facilities. Food. TV services.
I booked it as I thought wifi available. But to my dismay out of 3 days I had total of 49 minutes of wifi access. Hotel gave excuses that they will change the system. Not good enough when you advertise free wifi!

Not as good as I hoped

Posted 25-Jan-2015
Pros: The restaurant offered good choices at decent prices for dinner. I would recommend the hotel on location.
Cons: Breakfast - freshly made pots of tea and coffee, please and fresh fruit that isn't chopped, and porridge.
Location: It seemed a reasonable city centre location - we just ate and slept there and then went about our business the next day.
Finding the car park - for which I had to pay an extra £12, as the hotel doesn't have one of its own - was a job and a half, especially as I've never driven in Birmingham city centre before and it was dark and raining. We then had to haul our cases down steps as the car park lift wasn't working and then walk a short but not terribly pleasant way to the hotel. Once there we were checked in efficiently and found our rooms, which were standard Holiday Inn (quite why this chain can't offer you a biscuit with your tray of DIY tea and coffee I don't know - other chains manage it) and very clean and comfortable. We hurried down to the restaurant to get a meal and found a decent choice of main courses at (for a hotel) reasonable prices. I had the calves' liver and it was only OK - overcooked and in a not incredibly pleasant sauce. My side of rocket and parmesan salad was good. Breakfast next morning was a buffet and had less wide a range of choice than the 3* we'd stayed at in Bradford the day before (no, we're not a rock band, just had business in different places on different days) and DIY tea and coffee (neither of which were very good). At the very least, for the price we paid, I'l expect a pot of freshly made tea or coffee brought to my table. There was no porridge (which the 3* had supplied in a large tureen and very good it was) and fresh fruit was limited to a chopped salad. As I don't do cooked breakfast, there wasn't much choice for me at all.

Weihnachtsmarktbesuch, Sightseeing, Shopping

Posted 03-Jan-2015

Great location

Posted 30-Nov-2014
Pros: The location of this hotel was very convenient for us to get to the station to travel to the NEC. It is also a short walk in to the main shopping are
Cons: Carpet in the room. Larger breakfast area would be good.
Location: The new library is worth visiting, very impressive with great views from the roof top garden. The Bull Ring shopping centre provides great shopping.
Stayed for one night in a double executive room. The room was spacious & very clean but the carpet did show some wear along the seams. There were no bathrobes in our room provided but in our friends room they did have them! Breakfast was great, although the room was a little crowded.

Very convenient for New St station and city centre

Posted 29-Nov-2014
I've stayed here several times. I have never had cause to complain, although this time I came close! No fault of the hotel I might add, just some very rude guests who do not have basic courtesies towards strangers particularly in lifts! Room was lovely and I couldn't fault anything. Breakfast was a buffet and very well stocked. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Holiday Inn City Centre Birmingham

Posted 24-Nov-2014
Pros: Size of room was the only good thing
Cons: 1. A clean unbroken bathroom suite. 2,Tables allowing free movement in between to get to food and back.3. Better quality food and reasoably priced
Location: Near rail station but not easy to find. Felt unsafe around that area!
Disappointed with cracked wash basin - unhygenic!! Bathroom tub had streak marks - not good! Shower was okish but would have expecteda power shower. Expensive for what it gave. Evening meal very expensive and not nice. Pasta with artichokes. Much too fatty sat on my stomach all night. Breakfast was ok if you could get to it. Tables so close together difficulty getting in between chairs to get to food and back then having to very carefully hold hot food and drinks over people's heads to squeese past - a horrid accident waiting to happen! Very stressful breakfast!! Probably the worst Holiday Inn I have stayed in.

Nice location, clean and comfortable

Posted 24-Nov-2014
There for two nights. The room was nice and clean, bed was comfortable and no complaints about anything. Had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. Sadly I didn't have time to sample breakfast, would have been nice if the restaurant had been open at 7.

One night in Birmingham

Posted 04-Nov-2014
Pros: Room and Breakfast
Cons: Communal areas
Location: Very central, Bullring shops 5 minutes walk, new John Lewis 2 minutes, New Street Station 5 minutes walk.
Arrived at 1 am, night staff very helpful, breakfast was very good though the stewed tea was rather disappointing. Room was good size and in good decorative order but communal areas of the hotel need a refresh
