  • Dalaman Luxury holidays

With several beaches in easy reach, Dalaman is a great base for a Turkish holiday - a chance to rest, relax and recuperate on a stretch of sand shared between tourists and locals alike. Hidden away from the rest of the world in this tranquil setting, you may find you envy those who live here all year round.

    Dalaman's folly

Dalaman has one of the quirkiest tales of local architecture probably in the entire world, and that is Dalaman Railway Station. This might not sound like a remarkable building, except that Dalaman is not connected to Turkey's rail network, and never has been. In fact, the structure is often called Alexandria Railway Station, and that is because it was supposed to be built in Alexandria, Egypt. The building materials were delivered to the wrong place and, rather than pay the costly price to exchange them with the correct Dalaman supplies - which had been sent to Alexandria by mistake - the station, complete with a short length of track, was built in Dalaman instead.

    Life's a beach in Dalaman

Dalaman itself is not on the coast, but it is close to it, with several beaches within easy reach. Sarigerme Beach is the first of these, and there is only a small fee payable in order to be allowed access. On the clean and pristine sands of Sarigerme, you will find locals and tourists both enjoying the facilities, including a small cafe that serves refreshments. Making the 12 km journey to the beach should be quite easy, as the road from Dalaman to the coast has been resurfaced in recent years.

Alternatively, Sarsala Koyu is an enjoyable drive away over roughly the same distance. It will cost a modest fee to get on to the beach again, but you may find the drive alone is worth it, as the route's higher altitude sections promise stunning views of the cove and of the beach itself.

    When should I visit Dalaman?

If you are planning a summertime trip to Dalaman, consider bringing it forward slightly into May. This is when the Dalaman Culture Tourism and Sigla Festival takes place, and it is growing in stature year by year. The carnival spirit will make your trip one to remember, while the lure of the festival will bring a greater number of tourists from all over the world into the city for the celebrations.
