A pretty town in southern Brittany, Carnac has something for everyone, with its beaches, activities and cultural heritage dating back to prehistoric times!
Situated in the department of Morbihan, a region with over 550 megalithic sites, Carnac can certainly hold its own, as it's home to the world-famous Carnac megalithic site. Here you'll find menhirs, tumuli, dolmens and other standing stones incredibly aligned over two and a half miles and still full of mystery today. You'll certainly wonder why these stones are standing upright and in alignment. Come to the site, which is in the process of being awarded UNESCO world heritage status, and come up with your own theory! Walks and activities are on offer all year round to make your visit even more interesting.
As Brittany's sunniest town, Carnac is also well known for its pine forest-lined fine sandy beaches between the Gulf of Morbihan and Quiberon Bay come and enjoy a dip or the many water sports on offer, such as surfing, sailing, land sailing, jet-skiing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding or kayaking. If water sports are your thing, needless to say Carnac won't disappoint!
The town is also known for its thalassotherapy with the Institut de thalassothérapie de Carnac, as well as its many spas and beauty centres for total relaxation.
When it comes to food, you can enjoy Breton specialities, such as oysters, seafood, crêpes and Breton waffles, not to mention cider and Kouign-amann, or butter cake.

Getting to Carnac is easy by car from Paris, or by high-speed train to Auray, which is the nearest station. If you prefer to travel by air, Nantes Airport is nearby with connections to London.
