Centre Island Mountain Holidays

We love the Berkshire and have been staying there when either one of us is in NY for business or pleasure. The biggest asset by far is the unbelievable staff. The hotel keeps folx for decades. They know their business, their clients and their city. If you want Pierre-level service without the Pierre price tag, stay at the Berkshire.

Loved the cleanliness and the city views from up high were very good. Location excellent. The only downside is that it didn’t really feel like a hotel. It had a small bar, restaurant etc but no real feeling of a ‘centre’. Wasn’t a problem for us, but if you want somewhere with a bit more soul then look elsewhere

We got lucky and received a free upgrade to a Pent House room! The location is great, just a few blocks from Central Park in one direction and Times Square in the other. There are bus stops and subway entrances close by. It was easy to make pit stops at the hotel when we would be passing thru or hanging out in the neighbourhood.

The bed was comfy and clean, the air conditioning worked well, if a little noisy. The hotel was situated well with good access. The hotel is very 'tired' and all the furnishings reflect this. No fridge in the hotel room. Just a warning the bathroom although clean, was marble throughout with very sharp corners, on slip and you're in trouble. The staff were friendly. Also, food wasn't offered leaving a trek to find something decent for breakfast. I suppose you get what you pay for.

RIU has a quick and efficient system for storing luggage for travelers arriving prior to check in. We did have to stand in line twice in order to check in partly because the online check in process was nonfunctional. However, we were able to access our room prior to 3 PM which was very helpful since we were traveling with children. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean if slightly small and basic. The location is great for proximity to Times Square, theaters, and restaurants without much noise. Breakfast is included and is delicious and efficiently managed by hotel staff. Prices listed in Expedia are useful for a relative ranking between different hotels but do not reflect what you pay per night. Our basic room was a little over $500/night including various fees and taxes, significantly more than you might expect from the Expedia listing.
