I stayed for a week in Occidental Papagayo, overall everything was smooth. The food was ok nothing really special, the stuff good and helpful, the resort is beautiful for views 😍 in the golf of Papagayo with animals going around all the time like iguanas, birds,monkeys and others. The beach is public so others people outside the resort are there plus the sellers but they are nice. The beach itself is good not amazing but pretty calm for swimming and warm water as well, and beautiful view on the golf with spectacular sunsets. There are no umbrella on the beach but some trees for shade area nice.To move around the resort you can either walk( it can get tiring) or ride on the small cars. The weather was incredible nice warm, humid sometimes sunny and no rain. The rooms needed renovation and resort in general too. But personally i like it, can't complain. They have 2 pools 3 restaurant a disco for the night and some live music by the evening in the lobby area to relax. I traveled in mid September.

Everything was absolutely perfect, but the rooms are different in sizes and amenities, but still very clean and every day cleaned.

Beautiful lagoon pool. Our sea facing room was in a perfect location to enjoy the ocean. Staff were very helpful and offered great service. Property location is perfect.

I would give the resort zero stars. First, I want to make it clear that Costa Rica itself is absolutely beautiful. The natural scenery, beaches, and lush surroundings were breathtaking. We enjoyed exploring the country and were grateful that we booked excursions that allowed us to experience Costa Rica outside of the resort. Unfortunately, our experience at Riu Guanacaste was extremely disappointing. Our group consisted of 10 family members and friends. Together, we spent approximately $16,000 on this all-inclusive vacation with the expectation of having the time of our lives, relaxing, celebrating, and creating wonderful memories together. Some of our friends were visiting Riu Guanacaste for the first time, and it was especially disappointing for them to feel that they received only the bare minimum from the resort. We work hard for what we have, and this vacation was something we had all looked forward to. Unfortunately, the level of service and overall experience did not reflect what we expected from an all-inclusive resort. Customer Service The customer service was one of the biggest disappointments. We encountered several instances of rude and unhelpful service, and at times it seemed as though our concerns were not taken seriously. Basic requests often became unnecessarily difficult.
