Hilton Lijiang

10/10 Excellent

"Some of the areas are dated and need more up-to-date maintenance, but generally still maintain Hilton's standard."

Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town by IHG

10/10 Excellent

"I stayed in the Suite at Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town, and it was truly remarkable. The traditional courtyard is gorgeous, quiet, and feels like a peaceful haven—yet it’s just a 5-minute walk to everything in the ancient town. The suite itself is top-notch: comfortable, spacious, and beautifully designed with local character. From the moment I checked in, the staff's warmth and hospitality were incredible. Unfortunately, a bad hit of altitude sickness meant I was in no condition to enjoy the room or the property the way it deserved. I had to cut my trip short and head straight back to Singapore. You really see what a hotel is made of when things go wrong like that. Instead of hiding behind fine print, the front desk team stepped up with real empathy. They waived the remaining nights of my suite on the spot and promptly confirmed the cancellation for my prepaid booking with Expedia so I could get a refund. If you want genuine, heart-led hospitality in a great location, this is the place to stay. I will vouch for them anytime, and whenever I make it back to Lijiang, I’ll be staying right here."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Yulong?

The best area to stay in Yulong is Shuhe Ancient Town due to its convenient location, traditional architecture, and range of amenities.

Shuhe Ancient Town is located just north of Lijiang Old Town, offering a more peaceful setting while still being close to attractions. It's characterised by its well-preserved Naxi architecture, cobbled streets, and canals. The town centre features a main square where artisans often display their crafts, and numerous guesthouses and restaurants are located along the waterways.

For couples, Shuhe Ancient Town is an excellent choice. The quieter lanes and traditional courtyards of many guesthouses provide a relaxing escape. You can enjoy strolls along the canals, visit local tea houses, or explore the Baisha Murals nearby. It offers a romantic and authentic experience without the busier crowds of Lijiang's main centre.

Families will also find Shuhe Ancient Town appealing. The pedestrian-friendly streets mean children can explore freely, and many guesthouses offer larger rooms or family suites.

When is the best time to go to Yulong?

The best time to visit Yulong is during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) months when the weather is most pleasant.

During these periods, you'll experience mild temperatures and clearer skies, which are ideal for exploring the stunning natural landscapes, particularly the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The spring brings blooming flowers to the valleys, while autumn offers crisp air and vibrant foliage. These conditions are superb for outdoor activities like hiking and sightseeing without the intense heat of summer or the biting cold of winter.

Couples looking for a romantic escape will find these seasons particularly appealing. The comfortable weather allows for leisurely strolls through the picturesque villages and scenic viewpoints, and the clear skies enhance the beauty of the mountain vistas, creating memorable photographic opportunities. It's also a great time for enjoying the outdoor terraces of local restaurants.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the spring and autumn. The moderate temperatures make it easier to manage day trips and outdoor adventures without worrying about extreme weather conditions.
