About this property

Villa Paloma · Hot Tub, Cowboy Tub, 4 Acres

  • Summary:

Villa Paloma began as a 1952 homestead cabin among the boulders. In 2021 designers Wolfgang and Connie Pichler reimagined it, pairing coastal Mediterranean ease with the handcrafted Mexican style of Oaxaca, San Miguel de Allende, Todos Santos and Tulum, on four-plus hilltop acres at the edge of a protected wilderness zone. Start on the yoga deck in the rocks, lunch under the reed pergola among 100-year-old Joshua trees, then take the swivel loungers on the sunset perch. Three ensuite bedrooms.

    The Space:

Villa Paloma began as a 1952 homestead cabin and was renovated and modernized in 2021 by designers Wolfgang and Connie Pichler. It now blends coastal Mediterranean living with the handcrafted Mexican style of Oaxaca, San Miguel de Allende, Todos Santos and Tulum: white walls, arched yellow wood doors, terracotta cushions, rattan and woven textures throughout. The home sits among boulders on more than four private hilltop acres on the edge of a protected wilderness zone, with views of Joshua Tree National Park. With three bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, it suits small groups who want time together and private space.

    -Highlights-

► Hot tub and an outdoor shower

► Cowboy tub (not an in-ground pool), unavailable November through March

► Raised yoga and meditation deck in the boulders, with a propane fire pit

► Sunset perch with swivel loungers and 360-degree views

► Shaded dining patio with a propane BBQ among 100-year-old Joshua trees

► Cornhole, a horseshoe pit, lounge chairs and a swing

► Coffee and cocktail bar with panoramic desert views

► Skylit indoor dining for 8

► 270-degree conversation lounge with a smart TV and fireplace

► Three bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom

    ► Mini-library of vintage books

    ► Starlink Wi-Fi, a workspace and a 220V EV outlet

    ► Heating and air conditioning

    -Outdoor Amenities-

Begin the morning on the raised yoga and meditation deck tucked into the boulders, where floor cushions and a low table sit beside the Joshua trees. Later, swing in the hanging rattan chair on the porch or stretch out on a lounge chair, then gather for lunch at the long table under the reed pergola on the shaded dining patio, surrounded by 100-year-old Joshua trees, junipers, agaves and ocotillos with park views. The propane BBQ is there for an evening cookout.

In the afternoon, take a cocktail to the shaded patio by the cowboy tub and watch quail and rabbits pass through; the cowboy tub is not an in-ground pool and is closed November through March. Rinse off in the outdoor shower, or toss a round of cornhole or horseshoes. When the sky turns pink, climb to the sunset perch, where a pair of swivel loungers faces the valley and mountains. After dark, the yoga deck becomes the place for stargazing around the fire pit, followed by a long soak in the hot tub. The property is not fully fenced.

    -Living Area-

Light-filled rooms, minimal design, earthy colors and carefully chosen art set a calm tone. The 270-degree conversation lounge wraps a bay window with a built-in sofa piled with rust and terracotta cushions around a round rattan table, with a smart TV and a fireplace for cool nights. Pull a vintage book from the mini-library and settle into a window seat. A workspace with a mustard sofa and Starlink Wi-Fi are available.

    -Kitchen and Dining-

The fully stocked chef's kitchen has white cabinets, open wood shelving, a gas range, brand-new appliances, cooking and entertaining essentials and a drinking water filtration system. Pour a coffee at the bar and look out over the desert; at night, it turns into the cocktail bar. The skylit dining area seats 8 beneath woven pendants.

    -Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Villa Paloma has three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. The primary has a king bed with an arched headboard and a window seat, and the bath has a freestanding soaking tub beneath a woven hanging, a rain shower with patterned tile and a vessel sink. The other bedrooms are calm and simple, with woven wall pieces, a palm-frond hanging and soft striped linens. Organic bath products are provided; bathrobes are not.

    -Surrounding Area-

Joshua Tree village, La Copine, the Integratron, Joshua Tree National Park and Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown all make good outings from Villa Paloma.

    -Hot Tub Rules-

Please rinse off any oils, lotions or other substances before entering the hot tub, as they affect water quality. No drinking in the hot tub and no glass by any water feature, please. Keep the cover on when the hot tub is not in use, since desert debris easily gets into the water. Misuse of the hot tub may result in an additional maintenance charge.

    -Pool and Hot Tub Service-

Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.
