A triumph of 20th-century garden design, this park comprises quaint open-air rooms filled with architectural gems, ornamental hedges and a stream.

Divided into 14 themed areas with excellent views and floral displays, York Gate Garden is a picturesque delight for the senses. The park consists of 1 acre (0.4 hectare) of dense vegetation, as well as a tearoom and a plant nursery. Spend a few hours marveling at the greenery of this set of landscape gardens.

Enter each individual section of the gardens via the spaces in the yew and beech hedge separators. Stroll alongside the quaint stream in the Dell Garden and admire the twisted hedges and formal layout of the Herb Garden. Various architectural treasures adorn the gardens, with columns and gabled roofs a common feature among them.

Follow the meandering paths and admire the shapes and sizes of the evergreen trees clipped into intriguing designs. The themed sections of the park are thought of as open-air rooms, as each contains its own little world of horticulture. Rest in the Tea Room, which serves light meals and hot beverages. Choose from the selection of homemade cakes, with gluten-free options available.

Consider the history of the park, whose land was bought by the Spencer family in the 1950s and initially used for raising livestock. Over the following 30 years, the garden was lovingly crafted in its current exceptional form.

The park opens from April through September in the afternoon from Sunday to Thursday. There is a fee to enter the garden, which allows those under age 16 to visit for free.
