Yellowstone National Park

A visitor center with informational displays, a wooden building, and a paved walkway surrounded by trees.
A canyon with a river flowing through it, surrounded by green trees and rocky cliffs.
A waterfall cascading over rocks with a misty spray.
A rocky cliff with a viewing platform and people observing the scenery.
A busy indoor market with various stalls and shoppers.

Use this stopping point as a base for exploring Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Artist’s Point, one of America’s most iconic natural sights.

With dining, accommodation and shopping, Canyon Village provides a great base in Yellowstone National Park. Find the Grand Canyon of the YellowstoneOpens in a new window, one of the most iconic destinations within the park, just minutes from the village.

Explore the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, which stretches about 20 miles (32 kilometres) between Upper Falls and Tower Falls. Take in the views as you drive along the North and South Rim Drives. Hike along the canyon’s network of trails. Lower Falls Trail, Canyon Rim Trail and Ribbon Lake Loop from Uncle Tom’s Point are some of the most popular.

Stop at Artist’s Point, located on the canyon’s southern rim. The overlook, which offers vistas up the canyon to Lower Falls, has stunned visitors with its breathtaking beauty for centuries. Many believed that this was the spot that artist Thomas Moran painted in 1872 to inspire Congress to turn Yellowstone into America’s first national park. In fact, Moran’s viewpoint was from Lookout Point on the north rim.

Stop at the Canyon Visitor Education Centre, located in the Canyon Village complex. Learn how the Yellowstone volcano, geysers, hot springs and other geologic formations shaped the land you see today. Watch a film about Yellowstone’s history and study a room-size relief model of the park.

Drive to Hayden Valley to see the unique animals that call Yellowstone home. Watch for bison, elk, grizzly bears, wolves, bald eagles and more.

Hike to the top of Mount Washburn. At 6 miles (10 kilometres) round-trip from nearby Dunraven Pass, it is a perfect day hike. Enjoy panoramic views for about 20 to 50 miles (30 to 80 kilometres) from the top and look for bighorn sheep along the trail.

Sleep surrounded by nature in Canyon Lodge. Camp in a rustic cabin or stay in the newly renovated lodge. Shop for supplies or souvenirs in the Canyon Village General Store next door.

Use Canyon Village as your jumping-off point to explore some of Yellowstone’s most popular destinations. Located in the heart of the park’s wilderness, it offers a much-needed place to rest, dine and pick up supplies.
