The best area to stay in Vilamarí is the Old Town (Barri Vell), particularly around the central square, Plaça Major. This historic core of Vilamarí is characterised by its narrow, cobbled lanes and well-preserved medieval architecture. You'll find many independent shops, traditional Catalan restaurants, and charming cafes tucked away in its winding streets. The Plaça Major is the heart of the Old Town, often hosting local markets and events, and provides a good reference point for exploring the area. The Vilamarí Cathedral, a significant landmark, is also within easy walking distance.Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing for a romantic getaway. The pedestrian-friendly streets, historic setting, and abundance of intimate dining options create a relaxed and memorable experience. Evening strolls through the softly lit alleys are a delightful way to end the day.For families, staying slightly outside the immediate Old Town, perhaps closer to the Parc de la Devesa, offers more space and easier access to green areas. This area provides a nice balance between proximity to the historic centre – just a short walk away – and the convenience of larger accommodations, often with more child-friendly facilities and less foot traffic.

The best time to visit Vilamarí is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), offering pleasant weather and fewer crowds.Spring in Vilamarí brings mild temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 22°C (59°F to 72°F), making it ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside and coastline. The landscapes are lush and green, and you'll find the popular hiking and cycling trails less busy than in the peak summer months. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a romantic escape without the intense summer heat.Autumn also provides excellent conditions, with temperatures usually between 18°C and 25°C (64°F to 77°F). The sea remains warm enough for swimming until mid-October, and the vineyards in the nearby Empordà region are vibrant with harvest activities, offering opportunities for wine tasting tours. Families might appreciate the slightly cooler temperatures for outdoor activities, and the beaches are much quieter, providing a more relaxed experience. While summer (July and August) is popular for its warm, sunny weather, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F), it's also the busiest and most expensive time. If you prefer a lively option and don't mind the heat and crowds, summer can still be a good option, especially for beach holidays.
