"All the staff, especially the concierge John, were extremely friendly and helpful. John arranged activities, scooters and coordinated our difficult connecting transportation requirements. The spa was amazing and our room was by far the most beautiful, modern and well appointed of any we've experienced. A spectacular view, extremely comfortable bedding and uncommon conveniences like an in room Nesspresso, auto dimming cove, recessed and under cabinet lighting made it feel very homey....

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Van Don?
For most visitors to Van Don, the best area to stay is Ha Long, particularly around Bai Chay Beach, or in the quieter, more secluded areas of Quan Lan Island.

Ha Long, though technically a separate city, is the gateway to the stunning Ha Long Bay and offers the most developed tourist infrastructure for those visiting Van Don. Bai Chay Beach is the main hub, with a long stretch of sand, a promenade, and a wide selection of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment options. You'll find many tour operators here offering cruises into the bay. It's a convenient base for exploring the famous limestone karsts.

Couples looking for a romantic escape might prefer Quan Lan Island. This island offers a more tranquil experience with pristine, less crowded beaches like Minh Chau Beach and Son Hao Beach. Accommodation here tends to be smaller, boutique-style resorts or guesthouses. It's great for those who want to relax by the sea, enjoy fresh seafood, and explore the island's natural beauty by bicycle or scooter, away from the bustling mainland.
What hotels in Van Don offer free breakfast?
For hotels in Van Don that offer complimentary breakfast, the Diamond Van Don is a highly-rated option.

The 3.5-star Diamond Van Don, with an impressive 8.6 rating, provides a free buffet breakfast daily for its guests. Additionally, the hotel offers free WiFi and features an outdoor pool, adding to the comfort and convenience of your stay.
When is the best time to go to Van Don?
The best time to go to Van Don is from March to May or from September to November, when the weather is most pleasant.

During these periods, you'll experience comfortable temperatures and less humidity, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region, such as Bai Tu Long Bay. The sea is generally calm, which is superb for boat trips and water activities.

Families travelling with children will find these months particularly suitable. The milder weather ensures that outdoor excursions, like visiting beaches or national parks, are enjoyable for all ages without the intensity of the summer heat or the chill of winter.
