I lived in the Seattle U District for 16 years and welcomed an opportunity to stay at the College Inn. It has historical interest but is spartan in the way of amenities, just as it is described. I enjoyed opening the windows on to the street when the beer truck was making a delivery. Also was tickled to have granola/muesli available for breakfast. Warning - parking could be a real problem at times of the year but I went when the U was not in session. Loved the quiet before the school term begins. The only negative was that breakfast opened some time after advertised both days I stayed. And you can't expect much from the staff if you need assistance or advice.
My daughter and I stayed at Hotel Deca for 2 nights as we were there for tour of UW. The location is great for that purpose, a quick walk to the university and just a block off the main drag for college students called The Ave.
The hotel is a bit run down on the outside and in the lobby. The website definitely makes it look more glamorous than it really is.
However, location was perfect for our needs, staff attentive, and the room itself was large, comfortable, and we had a nice view of the Seattle skyline.
We didn't get to spend much time there, but it's quiet, the grounds are scenic, the breakfast is great and the staff are helpful and courteous. There was also jazz playing in our room when we arrived, which was nice.
With about 40,000 students, the University of Washington is the area's lifeblood. The campus includes a world-class medical center, the Burke Museum, and Henry Art Gallery. UW's main square offers a clear view of Mount Rainier. West of UW, a Lenin statue watches over Fremont, which bills itself as “The Center of the Universe.” Fremont's low-rise shops and cafés resemble Berkeley and Old New York.
