The town’s crystal clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and diving, while the nearby Daintree Rainforest offers a fantastic choice of walking routes and diverse plants and animals. Enjoy a relaxing day on the palm-lined Four Mile Beach, get your adrenaline pumping with an afternoon of kite surfing or head to the town’s Macrossan St where you’ll find a wide selection of excellent bars and restaurants.
Four Mile Beach – The focal point of life in Port Douglas, Four Mile Beach boasts clean white sand, clear waters and a stunning tropical setting. Kite surfing can be found at the southern end of the beach or, if you’d rather keep your feet on dry land, cycle the length of the beach on the pretty waterfront promenade.
Central Port Douglas – Home to a great choice of bars and restaurants, central Port Douglas is a fantastic destination for a meal out or a night on the town. Shop for bargains in the town’s waterside market, explore the eateries of Macrossan St or walk along the town’s pretty promenade.
Mowbray National Park – One of the most important bird habitats in Queensland, the Mowbray National Park is just a short drive from Port Douglas. Head to the park to get up close to some of the state’s colourful wildlife.
Daintree Rainforest Park – The oldest living rainforest on earth, the Daintree Rainforest Park covers 900,000 hectares of some of the world’s most unique habitats. Swim in the refreshing waters of the Mossman Gorge, spot birds and crocodiles in Daintree Village and visit the ancient trees in Cape Tribulation.
The most famous sight in Port Douglas is the town’s expansive beach. Stretching for four miles, the bay is one of the most beautiful in the region. The Daintree Rainforest is another important local attraction, with its ancient trees and unique habitat giving you a glimpse into the region’s past. One of the few historic sights in the region is St Mary’s by the Sea, a wooden chapel built in 1911 in Anzac Park. The Great Barrier Reef is just a short boat ride from the town or you can enjoy beautiful views of Port Douglas with a cruise along the bay.
Many of the most popular activities in Port Douglas revolve around the sea. The clean, clear waters around the town are perfect for diving and a number of scuba schools can be found in the area.
