Charming Lucca serves up historic sights and gastronomic delights in equal measures. This historic Tuscan city dates back to Etruscan and Roman times but its heyday was the Gothic era just before the Renaissance. Puccini was born here and regular festivals and concerts offer music lovers the ideal chance to listen to the local boy’s music. The imposing Renaissance walls, beautiful cobbled streets, handsome piazzas and shaded promenades in the largely traffic-free historic centre make for relaxed sightseeing. Rustic dishes made from nearby Garfagnana produce can be leisurely enjoyed if you need a break from all that marvelous architecture and those romantic ruins.
The City Walls - Designed by Leonardo da Vinci, no less, and never breached, the city walls today offer commanding views of the historic centre of the city. A pleasant stroll or bike ride can be enjoyed from the top them.

Parco Regionale delle Alpi Apuane - Rearing up near Lucca is a rugged mountain range protected by its National Park status. Hikers will love the trails passing isolated farmhouses, medieval hermitages and hilltop villages. The Garfagnana Valley is where the region’s produce comes from, grown amidst the chestnut woods.
Things to See in Lucca
The ancient Roman amphitheater can be found just off Via Fillungo and here as well as admiring the ruins you can enjoy music concerts throughout the year. The Duomo di San Martino is a 14th century Romanesque cathedral that includes a sculpture of the crucifixion attributed to an eyewitness, Nicodemus. Many of the historic buildings afford panoramic views over the city, including the Torre Guinigi and the Torre delle Ore.
