Stretching north from Sydney to Newcastle, the Central Coast sells itself as the ‘playground between two cities’. There’s certainly plenty to do in terms of leisure and tourism activities. Areas & Neighbourhoods on the Central Coast
Gosford - The main population and commercial centre of the Central Coast which stretches almost right down to Sydney. There are a number of smaller suburbs in the Gosford area too.
Tumbi Umbi - On the southern shores of Lake Tuggerah, the delightfully named Tumbi Umbi is a centre for recreation and leisure activities.
Norah Head - An important Aboriginal site surrounded by National Parks. Visit the lighthouse and a range of other cultural sites.
Patonga - A small village community located at the southern end of the Central Coast on Broken Bay, blessed with a beautiful beach and relaxed atmosphere.
Things to See on the Central Coast
There’s a big choice of beaches right up the coastline, from family friendly stretches to rugged surfing spots. Check out Avoca Beach, Copacabana Beach and Shelly Beach, amongst plenty of others. Head inland to explore the hinterland, a place of rare beauty and tranquility featuring the Watagan State Forest and Yarramalong Valley. Meet magnificent creatures at the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby, where you can see crocodiles, as well as slightly more cuddly species like koalas and kangaroos. Visit the stunning Somersby Falls or picnic at the Mangrove Creek Dam.
Things to Do on the Central Coast
Go horse riding at Peats Ridge or visit a macadamia nut farm in the Yarramalong Valley. Surf on a choice of beaches along the coast or feed the pelicans, one of the Central Coast’s most popular activities. There are plenty of sports facilities here too, with skate and BMX parks, tennis courts and swimming centres. Being active is a big part of life on the Central Coast. Swim in tidal pools, go on a bush walk or stop off at the cellar door of a choice of vineyards to sample the local tipple. The sights and sounds of Sydney are close by and lively Newcastle is a real surfing town, and there are world class restaurants all along the coast too. The Central Coast provides a top combination of urban areas, stunning beaches, national parks and dramatic scenery.
