The staff helped us arrange luggage transfer to Magome and stored our backpacks after check out when we went to tour the city. This is a very good choice for a trip to Matsumoto and the price is fair for the quality of the room."

"This place had the feel of a "best-kept-secret"; gem-of-a-find type place. Everything about staying there was fascinating. As the management, to their credit, explicitly warns on their listings, the structure is old and rustic. But this wasn't a deterrent in any way, it adds to the charm and they do an excellent job keeping it clean, well maintained and accommodating. As a westerner looking to explore some backwaters parts of Japan and stay in a traditional Onsen ryokan that is not a tourist trap, this was the perfect best-of-both-worlds fit. The manager spoke good English and was helpful so that there was no confusion or culture shock, but none of the authenticity was compromised. I would certainly stay there again, even go out of my way again - drive up to the mountains - in order to stay there if overnighting en route to or from Tokyo southward."
