"Staying at this hotel was an incredible and unique experience! The way the old prison has been transformed into a modern hotel is absolutely brilliant. The historic atmosphere is preserved perfectly, and the clean rooms are very comfortable. The staff is clearly understaffed and overwhelmed with duties, but they work incredibly hard and do their absolute best to keep the atmosphere and everything else perfect. Both the breakfast and parking options were excellent. Highly recommended!"

Van der Valk Hotel Volendam

10/10 Excellent

"Absolutely amazing would highly recommend"

Hof van Holland

10/10 Excellent

"Had really enjoyable stay with my family . Clean , pleasant breakfast. Clean hotel . Easy parking space for our car for few days (for free) just under 4min walk to hotel from parking space . We used bus everyday to explore Amsterdam . It cost around £5.50 one way to Amsterdam. Took just under 30min .van pay my card on the bus . Recommend visiting Edam’s cheese museum , local villages ."

Van der Valk Hotel Hoorn

10/10 Excellent

"Grote zuivere kamer. Heel eerlijk, zo schoon heb ik het nog niet meegemaakt. Vaak zit er nog wel een randje kalk aan de douchekoppen. Alles mooi schoon. Personeel lief (mag ik dat zeggen?) en behulpzaam. Als ik 1 nadeel mag zeggen: het parkeren. Door dat casino stond het helemaal vol. Maar goed. In het hotel was alles top!"

Fletcher Hotel Marijke

8/10 Good

"This is a great location for Bergen and the low-priced self parking is a huge benefit in an area with little parking options. The staff is also especially friendly. The room is clean and adequate but can be noisy and stuffy on warmer days. A small fan is provided but you likely need to have the window open which can add to the noise and temperature regulation issue through the night. There were some minor maintenance issues in the bathroom (slow drain in shower, toilet lever needed some adjustments intermittently or it would stop working, and the hand soap dispenser was not functioning.). A mini fridge would be a nice addition to the room (it looks like it probably had one in the past). The internet was quite good and reliable and the work desk very appreciated. It could use some updates to the outlets at either the bed or desk to accommodate USB demands. The bed, pillows, sheets, and towels were extremely clean but also very minimal in size and quality. All serviceable but not quite comfortable or exceptional in anyway. The mattress was very clean but is also a foam style mattress, which may give some trouble as it runs a little warm and is not as supportive as traditional ones. The breakfast is basic but reliable and plentiful each day should you choose to use it. The property is walking distance from almost everything in central Bergen, but because of the factors above is likely best for a shorter stay vs anything beyond 3 nights."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in 'T Veld?

The best area to stay in 'T Veld is within the village centre itself, particularly around the main street, Parallelweg.

This area offers a pleasant, quiet village atmosphere. You'll find a few local shops, a supermarket, and a restaurant or two along Parallelweg. The church is a central landmark, and the surrounding streets are residential with a mix of traditional Dutch houses and some newer builds.

For couples looking for a peaceful escape, staying centrally in 'T Veld provides a convenient base for exploring the North Holland countryside. You're well-placed for cycling routes through the polders and can easily access nearby towns for day trips.

Families will also appreciate the calm environment of the village centre.

When is the best time to go to 'T Veld?

The best time to visit 'T Veld is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is pleasant and the region's natural beauty is at its peak.

During these months, you'll experience longer daylight hours, making it ideal for exploring the surrounding Dutch countryside and coastline. The temperatures are generally mild, great for outdoor activities such as cycling through the tulip fields, visiting the nearby beaches, or enjoying boat trips on the canals. May is particularly popular for viewing the vibrant tulip fields in full bloom, which are a major attraction in North Holland.

For those who prefer a quieter visit with fewer crowds, early May or late September offer a good balance of agreeable weather and a more relaxed pace.
