We stayed for just over a week. The room (a standard twin) was fresh and clean. Nothing special at that price level but nothing to begrudge them either. The location is outstanding.
The highlight of our stay was the service. While the rooms don’t come with a water boiler or a fridge—the front desk staff were helpful with providing us a boiler and storing our items that needed freezing. Staff during breakfast were great too. At one point—a chef even insisted on making oat porridge for our son (it is our son’s favorite breakfast but we had indicated that we could take something else).
Speaking of breakfast, it was ok. For some establishments I would categorize it as good but for what you pay at Scandic Malmen, I would expect a bit more. That was our overall impression of Malmen. The service is top shelf. The staff are outstanding. Pretty much everyone. The facilities are ok. I guess you pay for the location too. Some minor additions—e.g, if you don’t provide a water boiler in the room, don’t charge market prices for coffee at a machine in the lobby—might move the needle from ok to excellent facilities considering how well run the place otherwise appears to be.
