Nice hotel, friendly staff and nice room.

Posted 14-Sep-2017
Pros: The location. It was very quiet and relaxing.
Hotel was excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. In house restaurant was closed on our arrival day. Front desk asked if we would like to book a table for bar bistro attached to spa. Looked nice but service and food fell way below standard. Free access to swimming pool sauna steam room and hot tub. This was very good. And you receive a towel on arrival. Again staff very friendly.

Doesn't deliver

Posted 11-Sep-2017
Pros: The surroundings.
Cons: The hotel should not advertise family rooms when they are not really fit for purpose.
Location: The hotel is in a stunning area of natural beauty, so the outdoor activities are limitless. If your stuck inside it's pretty bleak.
This hotel was booked as a family mini-break for myself, my husband and our four year old granddaughter. The room we were assigned was a "family room" and was nicely decorated, if not somewhat dated. However, it had large windows that looked directly over a public area, so there was no privacy. We even had the pleasure of watching another guest let her pooch take a poop right outside our window. The amenities were appalling for the lack of them. At the price paid for the room, you would expect a much higher level of room appointments. The one restaurant was fully booked, so we had to travel to a nearby town to eat. We had to request additional tea and sugar (only two wee sachets of sugar were provided) and reception seemed somewhat put out by the request. The pool is not child friendly and is in another building across the parking lot. The one thing it has going for it is it's beautiful surroundings, but I would never stay there again.

Great location

Posted 22-Aug-2017
We stayed here in order to attend a wedding nearby . The photos do not do justice to the location- it is stunning. We had to change our reservation ( our fault) so ended up in the cheapest room only at a price a bit less than the suite we had booked 9 months earlier. So we got a car park view , not a Loch view. Having said that, our room Was very quirky , up in the attic in the old house , and lots of space. We paid a lot to stay here , but found details lacking . The iron - much needed for a wedding - was a cheap model . And the coffee at breakfast seemed to be a mix of tea and coffee granules . Breakfast was not great value for money. The pool, spa and sauna could have been warmer. So , whilst our room and location and views were stunning, we felt the whole stay was a little over priced . On the surface the hotel looks and feels luxurious. But scratch under that surface, and details are sadly lacking for a hotel that charges a lot.

Wonderful hotel but...

Posted 28-Jul-2017
Pros: The staff was wonderful and the hotel had a very inviting and comfortable atmosphere.
Cons: See above.
Location: Aberfoyle was a lovely village to visit and shop in the stores.
We were shocked, when we paid our bill on departure, to find that there was a 29.90 pound charge for a bowl of oatmeal and an egg from the breakfast menu. There seems to be one fee for the hot breakfast no matter what you order. Perhaps that could have been better explained beforehand.

Terrible restaurants and poor drink selections.

Very disappointed. The room is great (nice big and clean), but the rest is quite disapoiting.

This was a mistake on my behalf , I was working in Sterling any when it came up with a Sterling address I booked two nights I hit rush hour traffic, 1.5 hours to do the 26 miles to the hotel , I informed the reception desk that I had booked the hotel thinking it was local to Sterling and that I was on a business trip , there was no phone signal WIFI phone did not work so it was no good The receptionist said it was ok to cancel my second night stay as she understood it was no good for a business trip , just to inform Expedia when I got a phone signal and a full refund for the second night would be made to my account , next morning after my early drive back to Sterling I contacted Expedia who contacted the hotel who denied that they had offered me a full refund for the second Night ? Don't like being made to feel like a lyer!

Lovely Hotel

We loved our stay at MacDonald's Forest Hills. The building and grounds are absolutely beautiful. Our room was large, immaculate, and had a fantastic view of Ben Lomond. The shower was the best we had in a 16 day trip. Hated to leave the shower. The hotel is way off the beaten path, right on the shore of Loch Ard. We really enjoyed the hotel restaurant, too. Breakfast is amazing - you can get pretty much anything you want. We were there 3 days and ate dinner in the hotel restaurant every night. We don't normally do that, but the food was very good. The highlight though is the service. The wait staff are very professional as well as genuinely helpful and friendly

The leisure facilities available at the hotel are very good. Staff were very attentive. The hotel sits above the loch side with fantastic views.
