Soak up the sun on this picturesque sandy strip, where St. Paul is said to have landed when he came to preach to the people of Rhodes.
St. Paul’s Bay is a scenic bay with a pretty and relatively quiet beach. Head to the strip of golden sand, which is bordered by wind-sheltering cliffs and is backed by bright bougainvillea.
This small beach has one big claim to fame. It is said to be the spot where St. Paul first landed when he came to Rhodes to try and convert the locals to Christianity in A.D. 51. Imagine the scene the Apostle would have encountered as he approached the shore on a primitive boat, with no idea what kind of reception he would receive.
Bring a swimsuit so you can venture out into the water for a swim. With the surrounding cliffs staving off strong winds and the shallow water level, it is a particularly good swimming location for families with children who aren’t strong swimmers.
Those seeking comfort can rent sun loungers. Beach umbrellas are also available for rent. To put on your swimsuit in privacy, head to the changing facilities. Showers are also available at the beach.
Stroll across the sands and admire the blue waters of the cove. Look for the tiny white chapel at the corner of the cove. This is an extremely popular wedding venue because of its stunning, photo-friendly setting.
Pack a picnic to enjoy at the beach while gazing out at the horizon. Or, sit down for a drink and a snack at a café by the edge of the sand.
Find St. Paul’s Bay on the southeast of Rhodes, just south of the whitewashed town of Lindos. Come during summer, between June and September, to experience the Mediterranean waters at their warmest. From Lindo, the beach is best reached on foot. Though the beach here is small, it’s also relatively quiet and relaxed, meaning you won’t have to look too hard to find a space for yourself.
