"We had a very poor experience at this hotel. Just a one night stay to visit my kids who live in Richmond. The first room had a mechanical issue with an aircon unit in the bedroom that's not pushing good air but making a terrible compressor sound... Couldn't be turned off and so chang d rooms at 4am. The second room, as we entered the room after 4am, had both aircon unit running full blast, very cold. Attempted to adjust thermostat but aircon unit in bedroom would not shut down. Managed to unplug it. Finally, a quiet room that's cold but acceptable. Would not stay here ever again."

"We stayed while the hotel was still renovating. The room was very well appointed, and clean. There was a lot of street noise due to a bar across the street, which might impact light sleeper (who should request rooms not facing Cary St.). They had excellent valet parking. Staff was excellent, and it truly is a nice boutique hotel, well located in the historic district."

The hotel exudes refinement without feeling stuffy, and it’s easy to see why The Jefferson is a beloved institution in the city. Food and Breakfast:** The breakfast was superb, with a distinct Southern Virginia touch that felt comforting and refined at the same time. I enjoyed Virginia ham for breakfast, and it truly took me to heaven—rich, savory, and perfectly prepared. The menu felt both fresh and thoughtfully curated. Staff and Service:** The staff were outstanding, delivering Southern charm with professionalism and warmth. Each interaction felt personalized, attentive, and genuinely friendly. "Easily a better value than many local hotels. Parking was a dream, always available and immediately next to the apt. Easy access check in leads to a private and nicely kept garden. Poshly carpeted stairs framed by an antique wooden bannister and over a dozen arranged mirrors. Bed was posh, comfy and clean. Neighborhood was safe and quiet, walkable, and close to everything you could want. Will stay again and refer our friends!"
