For more than a century and a half, Singapore’s Botanic Gardens have led the world in orchid research, while providing an expansive natural landscape in the heart of the city. Today, the gardens are one of only a few green spaces left in the densely populated downtown area, and are frequented by residents and tourists alike for the relaxing escape they provide. Spanning over 183 acres (74 hectares), the Singapore Botanic Gardens provide a great day out for nature lovers and families. Visitors to the gardens can discover local species of plants, a vast range of wildlife and an excellent location for a picnic. The gardens open before sunrise so arrive early to beat the heat and enjoy some quiet time before crowds arrive. Listen to native birds sing and watch the sun rise from above the trees. Singapore is one of only two cities in the world that is home to a tropical rainforest garden visitors will discover a dense canopy that provides shelter from the sun. Explore the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden with the family, an excellent educational and interactive centre for all ages. Children can enjoy the water play area or discover the process of photosynthesis. Make your way to the National Orchid Garden to find over 1,000 species of orchids. The centre is considered one of the world leaders in orchid research and has created more than 2,000 hybrids. The Singapore Botanic Gardens are located in downtown Singapore and can be reached by car, taxi or public transportation. Visitors arriving by bus can reach the gardens on a number of different routes. Parking is available for a fee or there is public parking on Tyersall Avenue. The Singapore Botanic Gardens are open daily and admission is free. (9 reviews) We really enjoyed our stay at Habyt Chinatown. The location is unbeatable, right in the center of Smith St by the street vendors, minutes walk from three different hawkers and multiple MRT entrances-- you are right in the action. Close to everything! The AC is very strong and was an icy reprieve from the heat outside. We didn't interact with any staff in person, but they were very responsive through whatsapp and when we needed an extra room cleaning beyond the scheduled, they came through quickly and easily. The room was as expected based on the pictures. Our room did not have windows to the outside streets, which was a bummer but also made it very quiet. Our room and one other room shared a locked shared area with a laundry machine, sink, cooking devices, and a fridge. We really appreciated the free laundry facilities and used them. The only thing that was strange was our bathroom was open air, which we didn't know beforehand. We saw the connecting room and it did not have an open air toilet, so I guess not all of them are like that. There was no AC in there, but a few bricks had "windows" in them but there was no glass. The bathroom was quite hot. We worried about bugs and people seeing in, but there were none and it was still very private. The bathroom also dried very well despite being open. I only wish we knew about this factor before we booked/visited, though I would still stay here again.
