About this property

San Juan Backcountry Lodge, Brand New Luxury lodge near Silverton Colorado

  • The San Juan Backcountry Lodge is an off-grid mountain retreat designed for guests who value access to the backcountry, privacy, and amazing views. Set deep in the San Juan Mountains near Silverton on Kendall Mountain, this lodge offers ski-in/ski-out backcountry access in winter and direct 4WD access to the Alpine Loop in summer and fall.

This is not a “remote-feeling” Lodge—it is truly off grid and intentionally secluded. The property itself is 10 acres, however the vast majority of the land around us is public BLM land, so you can wander at will. The nearest house is over a mile away.

The property is 2 miles up CR 33. The road is HIGH CLEARANCE 4WD!!! It's not quite as rough as the Alpine Loop, but it is rough! In a truck/jeep, expect the drive to take 20 mins. If you're pulling a trailer, expect the drive to take 40 minutes.

The Google maps location is: https://maps.app.goo.gl/3nawQFjF2oT2h9tA7

Lat and Long is: 37.783004, -107.658262

    Ideal For:

    -4WD / overland / off-road groups (summer & fall)

-Families seeking a remote, luxury mountain experience

    -Backcountry skiers & snowmobilers (winter)

    -Hunters during fall season

-Small exclusive groups looking for absolute privacy

-Weddings/Events, contact the host for pricing details

Sleeps up to 12 guests comfortably.

Access & Seasonal Requirements (Please Read Carefully)

    Summer & Fall:

High-clearance 4WD is required to access the property.

    Winter:

Access is by snowmobile, backcountry skis, tracked vehicle, or helicopter only.

Because the access road crosses avalanche paths, San Juan County requires winter guests to be guided to the lodge by a qualified backcountry guide.

    Mud Season:

The lodge is not accessible in May.

This property is best suited for guests experienced with mountain travel and remote environments.

    The Lodge

Fully off-grid power system: solar + battery storage with automatic backup generator

Starlink internet for reliable connectivity plus cell service

Spring-fed water system with ample supply

    Propane hot water system—reliable year-round

Wood stoves for heat, comfort, and atmosphere

Professionally designed and engineered for heavy snow loads and extreme mountain conditions

Sleeping Arrangements (Up to 12 Guests)

    Primary Bedroom: King bed

    Second Bedroom: King bed

    Third Bedroom: King bed

Loft Bedroom: Bunk room with bunk beds for 6

Well suited for families, groups, and multi-couple stays.

    What Makes This Place Special

    True ski-in / ski-out backcountry access

Immediate proximity to Silverton, Kendall Mountain, and surrounding high passes

Unobstructed views of peaks, valleys, and dramatic alpine sunsets

    Absolute privacy—no nearby neighbors

A lodge built for people who actually use the mountains

    Important Notes

    * This is a **remote, off-grid property**. Guests should be prepared for mountain conditions, rapidly changing weather, and limited emergency access.

    * Wildlife is present in the area.

    * Winter access requires coordination with a qualified backcountry guide as required by the county.

*UTV ACCESS TO THE ALPINE LOOP: Access to the Alpine Loop from the lodge requires guests to drive through the outskirts of Silverton, but through Silverton city limits for about 1/4 mile. If you get caught driving a UTV through Silverton, it's a $300 fine. The safe option is to park your UTV's/UTV trailer at the Silverton Lakes RV Park and leave from there. As our guest, your parking there is free. Just check in at the RV park office and tell them you're staying at San Juan Backcountry Lodge. Otherwise, you can trailer your UTV through town and unload it outside of city limits on the shoulder of the county road. It's not legal to leave from anywhere in Silverton in a UTV and access the Alpine Loop.

Winter weather and avalanche safety: From November through April, a licensed guide takes guests in and out in a tracked Ford F-250 and checks conditions every day. The guide's safety decision is final. If the guide cancels or shortens your trip, you'll get a refund for every unused night, or you can move to new dates if you'd rather. If it isn't safe to leave on checkout day, you stay until it is, and the extra nights are free. Otherwise, the booking's standard cancellation policy applies. Full details are on our FAQ page. We recommend travel insurance.

This place is unbelievable. Everything you could hope for in a mountain home and it is remote. Everything view was spectacular and the easy access to the mountain was perfect for daily hikes. The drive is concerning on the first time but no big deal after that. We drove a GMC Yukon up and down a dozen times with no issues. Go slow and expect 20 minutes to get up and down but the views from the drive are remarkable and make it worth it. The host was great and quick to respond to every message we sent. We had 4 adults and 6 kids and this place could not have been better. Easy access to fishing, hiking and any adventure you can think of. We would absolutely do this again and would highly recommend it to anyone.

This rental was absolutely beautiful!!! Let’s start with that! We stayed for three nights and the views alone were incredible! I wish we had fans at night only because there’s no AC so having moving air would have been nice. And the road to get to this house was sketchy…. And we had no idea about it till we got to the road… nowwww I will say the road to get to this house was very worth it! Just go slow and a high clearance vehicle will be best in my opinion! I had our elopment reception dinner with some family at this house and it was absolutely incredible!
