Top Scottish Highlands attractions for a relaxing vacation

The Scottish Highlands offer a splendid retreat for families and discerning travellers seeking relaxation with a touch of adventure. Begin your exploration at the breathtaking Loch Ness, where you can enjoy serene boat trips while keeping an eye out for the elusive Nessie, all set against stunning mountain backdrops. Head over to Fort Augustus, a charming village at the southern end of the loch, where you can unwind with leisurely strolls along the Caledonian Canal, perhaps stopping for a picnic by the water. For a taste of local culture, visit the Highland Folk Museum, which showcases the region's rich history through authentic buildings and traditional crafts, perfect for engaging children in a fun learning experience. Nature enthusiasts will relish a visit to Glen Affric, known for its picturesque trails and ancient Caledonian pine forests, offering tranquil walks that can be enjoyed at your own pace. Finally, end your day in one of the many hotels equipped with hot tubs, particularly around Aviemore, where you can soak in bubbling luxury while gazing at the starry skies after a day of exploration. This area not only provides a range of top hotels but also easy access to nearby attractions, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay.

Cameron House on Loch Lomond

Cameron House on Loch Lomond

10/10 Excellent
"The room was fabulous with a big comfortable bed. All the staff we met were friendly and very helpful. We were travelling with our dog so couldn’t eat breakfast in the main restaurant but we ate in the tavern instead which was lovely and quiet. We could pick from their menu or order anything from the main restaurant including the buffet too. In the evenings we ate in La Vista and again took our dog, the first was great and again we were well looked after. My only negative would be the cost of bringing our dog at £50 per night which is very high compared to other hotels on our trip and the very long dog policy we needed to sign on arrival which we’ve never come across before. As responsible dog owners we always clean up after our dog and would expect to pay extra in the unlikely event of damage."

"Staff was nice and very helpful. Breakfast was great and the bar stayed open late. The rooms and hallways can use some updating but overall it was a very nice stay."
