About this property
George Baldwin House Garden Apartment
The George Baldwin House was constructed in 1887. Designed by architect William Gibbons Preston. This was the first commission for Preston who later went on to design many of the most famous and impressive Savannah landmarks such as the Cotton Exchange. This home is largely original and rustic on the interior. The low price reflects that aspect of the unit interior but the incredible house and great location certainly are impressive. This is for those who want to experience something far different from a polished hotel room during their historic Savannah vacation. Brockington Hall is right next door. The apartment kitchen is stocked with basic utensils (plates, pots and pans, etc) as well as a refrigerator and stove and dishwasher. We do provide sheets and towels at this listing as well.
There are two separate bedrooms in this garden apartment unit, each with a Queen size bed. The bathroom is en suite with one of the bedrooms and the bedrooms have curtains as doors so this is great for parents with a teenager or 2 friends who want to sleep in separate beds but may not be suitable for 2 couples.
We do not have a sleeper sofa so this unit sleeps a max of 4 people.
The gardens and exterior of the home are other worldly, like stepping back in time. All outdoor space is shared with several other apartments in the mansion. Each apartment has its own private entrance. You have a very spacious screened in porch including an outdoor dining table and sofa that is private to this apartment. Parking is free and easy on the street at this location and the main downtown grocery store (Kroger) is less than a block away.

Just me and a friend stayed here, but it would be perfect for up to 4 people. The house the unit is in was gorgeous, and the screened in porch was perfect for relaxing. Parking was easy and grocery right next door. Would stay here again!
Place was just as described and perfect for our stay in Savannah. Place is within walking distance to most of the historic district and everything we wanted to see and do.
Perfect location, walkable to parks, squares even river street (a bit of a walk, but doable). Very easy parking on the street. Comfortable beds, nice screened in porch, quiet neighborhood. Walk to grocery. Great stay.
The place was just as described. It was in a fantastic location, walking distance to everything. The check-in process was a breeze. The place was very clean. Would highly recommend this beautiful mansion.
Visiting Savannah for a wedding. Family staying nearby so the location was great. Convenient to shopping and Forsythe park. Pleasant walk to the river and many restaurants nearby. The apartment was perfect for two adults with access to the garden and yard.
This first floor apartment has plenty of Savannah style and charm. We were comfortable and happy to park our car and walk everywhere. The large sleeping porch and fenced yard gave us extra room to spread out.
Cute 2 bedroom 1 bathroom historic place. Very clean! Looked nice and was accurate to the listing online. Street parking always available. Had a great time!
We were amazed at the history that was maintained. It did have an old smell but that was expected with the age of the building. We enjoyed the outdoor area. We enjoyed our short stay.
We had a blast. The property was perfect for my husband and I along with my daughter and her friend to stay for a quick weekend trip. Had an amazing location. Very historic and gorgeous property. Parking was free. We enjoyed it very much.
Charming historical apartment, perfect for small family. Close to Forsyth Park, Kroger and the adorable delicious Matte Factor. Two bedroom with one bathroom, kitchen, sitting room porch.
Beautiful location and lovely house. Very spatious and everything we needed. Loved the screened in porch. Plenty of parking. It is not elegant but was good for our needs.
Amazing historic Savannah experience! Just out the door, we started a day-long walking tour, stopping at the grocery store across the street for dinner supplies on our way back in. Easy in and out and parking to do day trips as well. The rental itself feels like part of the historic experience, and was comfortable, clean, and as described. We had a lovely lunch in the screened-in patio and the kids enjoyed the garden space as well. Amazing stay - thank you!
This property was great for my sister and I. The location was ideal in the Historic District just 2 blocks from Forsyth Park and we were able to walk and take the free DOT bus everywhere we wanted to go. It is hard to tell from photos, but the apartment has not experienced recent renos. We were looking for a character experience so it was ideal for us.the screen porch was our go to for morning coffee and our evening glass of wine.
The house is in a great location. Definitely not updated so if you want modern amenities, avoid this rental. But if you enjoy old homes, this is a great option.
Would not be a great option for two couples, as the bathroom access is in a bedroom. But for families or girls trip, it was great.
My daughter and I stayed for her SCADbound trip before starting school there in the fall. We loved it! It’s exactly how the space is listed - rustic and simple. We love anything with history, so we really enjoyed the stay. Wish we could have explored the rest of the mansion, but that would have been a little awkward since people live there - lol! Perfect for our few days and Kroger is literally steps away if you need anything. A lovely coffee shop down the street where my daughter is already planning to spend a lot of time during the school year. Highly recommend!
This place caught my eye right away. It was beautiful and just had something about it that fit our fairytale aesthetic perfectly. We eloped in Savannah and they allowed us to take some pictures before, the porch was perfect for getting ready, and the indoor accommodations were just right. The house is centrally located and is conveniently across from a kroger which made shoping easy. I would recommend to couples or girls trips! We will definitely be back!
Great location, historical building, but NOT comfortable 3the summer.
We loved the building, location, and ease of communication with host. But NOT ENOUGH AC for any summer bookings. Seriously, we stayed away from the house until we thought it would be tolerable at night, and still couldn't sleep in either bedroom, let alone so anything in the kitchen. Probably great in 75 degree weather.
Incredible historic house with all the expected downsides, but the ambiance and location made up for them. Strange layout, one bedroom has bathroom and dining table, the other has the only tv. Living room type area is a covered screened in porch where we spent the majority of our time. Walking distance to Kroger grocery and fun cafe a block away. Free on street parking never had to park more than a block away. Would highly recommend but remember this is an historic house with floors that aren’t all level, and bathroom is only accessible through one of the bedrooms. Funky floor plan but quirky chic

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Great location but there are drawbacks
Pros--good price and location. Cons--the biggest is that every noise from the apartment above can be heard loud and clear. The last night of our stay, this kept us awake into the wee hours. Also a con--the bed in the second bedroom is way too high off the floor, with only a much too small (child's?) stepstool to assist getting into it. And do not expect privacy in the bedrooms--there are no doors, only curtains.
The property was nice. I also rate my stay with how comfortable my bed was. The back bedroom with the TV was very comfortable, however the bedroom with the dining room table was not. It was hard and you could feel the springs. Not in a jabbing sort of way, but it wasn’t soft like the other one.
You could also hear the people above us. Stomping and running but it stopped around 10ish , so it didn’t disturb my sleep after I went to bed.
The George Baldwin house in Savannah, Georgia, is a charming and captivating retreat. Its timeless beauty is accompanied by the gentle creaks that add to its historic allure. The maintained garden invites leisurely strolls, offering a serene escape from the bustling world. Inside, the house is adorned with furnishings that carry the weight of history, evoking a sense of nostalgia and grace. While the coffee maker is a convenient touch, guests should remember to bring their own coffee to fully enjoy the mornings. The location is unbeatable, just a short 5-minute jaunt from Forsyth Park, with easy access to the free trolley and a nearby Kroger. Parking was easy and free on the street. For those seeking an enchanting blend of history and comfort, the George Baldwin house is a truly exceptional choice.
Th entry was difficult to locate at night as it was not clear or illuminated to point us where the steps were to find the carriage house. The kitchen lights also did not work and the ice machine made ice all night long because it was broken. There was also an odors in they air that made us think the pipes has rotted. Then we had a family above us that had children running constantly. The location and closeness to a supermarket were truly great so we enjoyed that.
