About this property

Designer Mesa Escape with Stunning Ocean Views

  • The Mesa in Santa Barbara is well-known for its laid-back coastal vibe and happy locals! This refined coastal escape is where luxury meets casual living. Just moments from Cabrillo Boulevard Beaches, cool Mesa shops and food, and Shoreline Park, this thoughtfully curated residence enjoys a privileged setting within a peaceful hillside enclave of custom homes.

Proximity to amazing coastal activities and the charm of the Mesa make Vista de la Playa an ideal home base with designer style and relaxed elegance. Bathed in natural light and tempered by ocean breezes, the interiors exude quiet sophistication while clean lines, and a serene palette foster a sense of calm and intention.

Set across two thoughtfully designed levels, with volume ceilings, sunlight casts a glow across hardwood floors and into a welcoming living room where a fireplace lends warmth and intimacy. Sliding doors open to an ocean-view terrace, where swivel chairs invite a choice between watching boats silently pass by or sitting and enjoying the tranquil garden. From the living room, step up to the dining room, where a circular table can expand to seat eight guests, softly illuminated by the glow of a living room fireplace.

The main terrace, outside the main living space, anchored by a fire pit and a towering, blooming Jacaranda, is enveloped in lush landscaping and fragrant citrus trees. Meandering pathways carve through the grounds to connect the outdoor spaces.

The well-appointed kitchen offers convenience and ease. A myriad of serving pieces and small appliances adds variety to meal time prep and setting a pretty table. Grab a few oranges just outside and enjoy fresh juice each vacation morning! The adjacent media room with a Frame TV, and a sofa, sits between the kitchen and a lush dining patio on the home's east side. Lush and beautiful, the table seats 6 guests.

Upstairs, the primary suite is a serene sanctuary with vaulted ceilings and sweeping ocean views from corner to corner. In luxurious style, it is spacious and bathed in sunlight during the day and the glow of city lights at night. Corner windows are the true gift of this sanctuary to showcase the coastal views. The primary bath features dual sinks and a spacious glass shower with a hand-held wand in addition to a great shower head.

Two additional bedrooms, each with a distinct personality and a queen-size bed, offer a similar level of comfort and amenities. The west bedroom not only has plenty of closet space and a large dresser, but also a unique custom “portal” window framing ocean views for a fun peek at the occasional cruise ship visiting these Channel Island waters. The east bedroom, in soft sage-green tones, is equal in stature, offering an early-morning sunrise glow. Two hall bathrooms, each with a luxury feel and large showers, and plenty of plush towels, complete the upstairs offerings. There is a two-car garage where the laundry facilities include front loading washer and dryer as well.

Living on the Mesa is a special experience. Vacationers will always feel welcome at the many casual dining options here. Shopping at Lazy Acres is a great place to stock the refrigerator or fill the picnic basket. Mesa Produce is a must for the best organic produce and unique flower selections to add that special touch to a celebratory meal. Enjoy all there is to see and experience on the Mesa and don't forget the vibrant offerings of downtown are only minutes away. Welcome to a perfect perch high above a town full of possibilities and so many opportunities to make memories in paradise.

Vista de la Playa stay

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Vista de la Playa. The location was perfect and the house was equipped well enough for our needs annd comfortable. Everyone was happy there. The space was homey and nicely decorated and had everything we needed essentially. Being Santa Barbara, vacation rentals are not good value for money - it's generally expensive so expectations are somewhat higher. I think we were the first vacation renters in the property so it is worth highlighting some things that came to our attention - especially given we are landlords ourselves :-) The airconditioning definitely needs updating. The only room which benefitted was the primary whilst the vents in the other rooms were very old and no air was coming out or very minimally. Management were super responsive and brought stand alone fans for the other bedrooms so it was not the end of the world but some nights were hot. There was no grill /bbq at the property which is odd for a rental in the US, especially in CA. A bbq was delivered to the house but in week 5 of our 6 week stay. Not the end of the world and we rubbed along without one but it should have been there from the start. The house could do with putting some hooks on backs of doors etc and additional waste bins in bedrooms. The primary suite has blackout Roman blinds but when the wind gets up at night, they rattle noisily against the windows. One of the other bedrooms has cheap metal Venetian blind as does the guest bathroom - and these should be upgraded along with the living room blinds so they fit with the more elevated furnishings. I bought a clothes' airer which I left at the property as there wasn't one and the oven /stove only had one shelf in it and we had to wait a few weeks for a temporary addition to arrive. Again, not the end of the world but since we had to use the oven /stove more frequently in the absence of a bbq/grill, it was a little inconvenient. However - we loved our stay there and created many happy memories with the family there. We would definitely stay again (although we found the primary bed a little small for us as we are used to a King and the mattress a little soft but we adapted to it, no problem) as VROSB are excellent and the location on the Mesa was fantastic. Be mindful of beach tar! We had a tonne whilst we were there which is such a shame but you just need to know how to manage it and have spare slides and sneakers with you which you don't mind being trashed. Thank you so much! (Be mindful of the very particular neighbour next door who shares the driveway. Ironically we were so respectful to her whilst she had an abundance of reno works being carried out on her house during our stay! We didn't mind at all but it was amusing that we weee doing everything right to respect her wishes and not upset her!)
