#### At the city’s oldest church marvel at opulent interior decoration and admire the four rose windows of the Gothic façades.

San Vicente Church is a masterpiece of Basque Gothic design in the heart of San Sebastian’s historic center. This landmark structure has a tall and intricate façade and a lavish interior. Use an audio guide to learn about the context and history behind this fascinating church.

Gaze up at the towering façade and notice its range of arches, buttresses and towers. Among the highlights are the four rose window on the sides of the church. Admire the Baroque touches and statues dotted around and within this religious gem. 

Stroll through the three spacious naves and gaze up at the vaulted ceiling. Look for the extravagant golden altarpiece made by artist Ambrosio de Bengoechea in 1586\. It comprises scenes portraying the death of Christ.

Consider the history of the church, thought to be the oldest church still standing in the city. It was built at the start of the 16th century. The impressive French organ inside dates back to 1868.

Attend a Mass service at this working church to get a glimpse into the customs of the local community. Listen to the excellent acoustics in the center of this church, where weddings and other religious ceremonies take place.

Note that it is free to enter the site, which opens Monday through Saturday for a few hours in the morning and again in the evening. On Sundays the church opens only in the morning.

San Vicente Church lies toward the northern limits of the Old Town district of San Sebastian. Reach the church in the shadow of Urgull Hill by bus, getting off at the nearby San Telmo stop.
