Lovely and quaint.

Posted 17-May-2017
Very pretty and quaint. The facility is well maintained. The king size bed in our room was horribly uncomfortable. Both my husband and I had sore backs and hips by the time our stay was over. The bed was hard but unsupportive and if we rolled towards the center we'd wind up in a hole. There are stairs everywhere so it can be a challenge to get around for someone with bad knees or other mobility issues.

Nice place to stay but a bit pricey IMO.

Posted 11-May-2017
Pros: Comfortable Bed, fireplace, nicely appointed large room. Chocolate Chip cookies and afternoon glass of wine are nice.
Cons: Reduced rates for the rooms on bottom floor that face the parking lot. Dark and dreary. Would much rather of had a room on the other side with view.
Location: Lots of wineries in Edna Valley. Morro bay. SLO is a great town to explore. Easy drive to Pismo Beach and Lompoc for wine tasting.
We have stayed at the Apple Farm before. The first time, our standard room was unacceptable because the carpet was soaking wet. They had a pipe burst in an adjoining room. They moved us to one of their best rooms near the lobby which was quite nice. We decided to go back for a subsequent visit to SLO. We went for a higher priced room. Our room was on the floor below the lobby on the parking lot side. The room was nicely appointed though the bathroom only had one sink which was a drag. The problem with the room is that is felt like a dungeon. If you looked out the window, there were plants but behind the plants was a concrete wall since we were below the parking lot level. Also, breakfast is not included with the room. For the price charged, I expect a bit more. We frequent the Mendocino coast in Northern CA and for the same price stay in a beautiful cottage on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean where we can see whales from our room and included with the room price is a fabulous breakfast in their outstanding restaurant. I'm sorry, but the Apple Farm doesn't measure up to that standard even with the free chocolate chip cookies for the guests. The Apple Farm offers an afternoon "cocktail hour" which is nice. Good wine but the appetizers? Cut up frozen chicken strips with bottled BBQ sauce for dipping. Kind of lame. How about some cheese, crackers and olives or something? Next time we visit SLO, I think we will look around for something better.

Great Base Camp for Hearst Castle, Paso & Edna AVA

Posted 27-Apr-2017
Pros: See above.
Cons: More cookies (4 fresh ones are handed out each afternoon after 3 along with free wine tasting from 3:30-5.
Location: See above plus Mission, Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, SLO shopping...
Not only is this hotel a perfect location for enjoying Hearst Castle, the Paso & Edna Valley AVAs and the quaint college town of San Luis Obispo, but, more importantly, it's a destination in its own rite. Quaint rooms with sooo much character, similar restaurant and bakery serving comfort food, and an incredible 2-story gift shop. We will be back and we will only stay here.

Relaxing weekend in SLO

Posted 11-Apr-2017
Pros: It's got that nice country feel; the decor inside was so cute. I wanted that lamb sitting out by the elevator downstairs. :)
Cons: more cookies? :P
Location: It's right off the 101; easy access. But, other than the restaurant that's there, not very close to anything else unless you drive in to town.
This was our second stay at the Apple Farm. Last stay was on the main floor and this time downstairs. We got a quaint canopy king bed with fireplace and sitting area. It was quiet and room looks out into the back wooded area. I love the fresh cookies offered upon check in. They also had wine tasting but I don't drink so can't comment on that. Coffee and plentiful in the lobby. They did run out of the awesome apple cider when I stopped by the first day. They also ran out of hot chocolate in the morning. But I think that's because it's soooo yummy.

Great launching/landing point for Hearst Castle.

Posted 03-Apr-2017
Pros: Spacious room with fireplace and opening windows. Clean pool.
Cons: Decorating was way over-the-top for me, but the older couple and mother/daughter crowd it seems to attract made for a very quiet and friendly stay.
Location: Hearst Castle, Pismo Beach, Elephant Seals - wish we had more time near San Luis Obispo!
Stopped here with the family for a night. One room was plenty of space for us and beds were comfortable. Fireplaces and windows that opened onto little courtyards were very nice too. Came back later (after visiting Hearst Castle) and used the pool area to relax before heading on toward Los Angeles. Didn't have time to try out the restaurant, but seemed like they were going for a feminine version of a Cracker Barrel with the adjacent shop.
